Reform. Congregations to Inaugurate Conservatives Open
Adult College of Jewish Studies
Adult Institute

Temple Beth El and Temple
Israel announce the inaugura-
tion of a joint program of adult
education in the field of religion
and religious c u l t u r e. The
school; to be known as the • Col-
lege of Jewish Studies will hold
all classes in Temple Israel.
The faculty will consist of the
rabbis of the two congregations;
Dr. Leon Fram, Dr. Richard
Hertz, Rabbi Minard Klein and
Rabbi M. Robert Syme, and Dr.
Norman Drachler, educational
director of Temple Beth El,
Among the courses to be of-
fered will be: The Bible, Jew-
ish History—Ancient and Cur-.
rent, The Tercentenary Story of
the Jews in America, Reform
Judaism, The Basic Ideas of the
Jewish Prayerbook, Great Jewish
Books, The Jewish View of Je-
sus, and Elementary Hebrew.
A special course for religious
school teachers of the two con-
gregations in Methods of Teach-i

ing in Jewish Religious Schools
also is planned. - -
There win be a fall term of
eight weeks beginning at 8 p. m.,
Nov. 1, and a winter term, also
eight weeks, beginning Jan. 17.
Sessions will be once a week on
Monday nights.
The public is invited to enroll
in the College of Jewish Studies.
Non-Jews who wish to learn He-
brew or to know the Jewish
viewpoint on the Old and the
New Testaments will be welcome
to attend courses.
There will be a fellowship pe-:
riod with refreshments at the
close of each session. A nomi-
nal enrollment fee will be
charged. Those desiring further
information should call the of-
fices of either Temple Beth El
or Temple Israel.
Chairing the sponsoring com-
mittees are Burton Freedman,
of Temple Beth El, and Alan
Brown, of Temple Israel.

The third annual Synagogue
Adult Institute will begin -Nov.
9, it 'was announced by Dr.
David Blum, chairman. The in-
stitute, a cooperative effort of
the five Conservative congre-
gations of Detroit, has as its
theme this year, "Your Door to
Enjoyable Jewish Living."
Included among the courses
are "Life Cycle of the Jew,"
"Prophets, Sages and Poets:
The Architects of Judaism,"
"Ethics of the Fathers," "Know
Your Prayer Book," A Bookshelf
of Modern Jewish Biographies,"
"Bible Texts for Modern Man."
Classes also will be given in be-
ginner's conversational and ad-
vanced Hebrew..
The faculty will include Rab-
bis Milton Arm, Jacob Chinitz,
Benjamin H. Gorrelicic, Moses
Lehrman and Jacob E. Segal.
Participating in the lay faculty
are Ezri Atzmon, Mrs. Harold J.
Goodman, Max Gordon, Joseph
Haggai and Alex Roberg.
Institute members will have

' Slate Children's Party

A fun fair, featuring a midway
and big top, will provide the set-
ting for the annual .children's1
party sponsored by the Temple
Israel - Men's Club on Sunday

Shalom Synagogue for 8:30 p.m.,
Saturday, in the synagogue so-

known as Detroit's old-time
band.
