Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shapiro, of 4834 Cortland, were honored
at a dinner party at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Peggy Cole,
of Joan Street, Oak Park, on their 47th wedding anniversary,
Their children present included Messrs. and Mesdames Harry
Shapiro, Harold Weiss, Wilford Cole, Charles Kief, Ronald Stern.
and Ben. Stanton and their seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Alvin Solomon' and children, Marshall Gregory and
Janice Gale, have returned to their home on Glendale Ave., fol-
lowing a six-week tour of California.
Nathan Raviv of Israel, who has been named special attache
to the Israel Ambassador to Canada, where he will be in charge
of economic affairs in behalf of the Israel government, was a
guest .here last week of his aunt, Mrs. Fannie Grenadier. He was
honored at a Sabbath dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip
Stollman.
A reception on Oct. 3 was held in honor of Myron Russell
Morrison,. son of Mrs. Frances Morrison, of 3754 Webb, and the
late Mr. Louis Morrison, in celebration of Myron's Bar Mitzvah.
The ceremony was observed a day earlier at Cong. Bnai David.
Mrs. Mollie Goldberg, of 2599 W. McNichols, has returned
here following a visit to Miami, Fla:, for the High Holidays. Mrs
Goldberg, president of the Detroit Social Club of Greater Miami,
will welcome visits from Detroiters who expect to visit Miami and
the Club while in Florida this season.
Mr. and Mrs. Sol Leonard Penskar and son, Mark, formerly of
W. Grand Ave., are now residing in their new home on Hunting-
ton Rd.
LTJG Jack Driker recently returned to this country following
a two-year tour of duty with the. U.S. Navy in Europe. He is pres-
ently on leave, and visiting here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Driker, of 3275 Leslie.
Mr. Max Rosenfeld and Mr. Allen Rosenfeld, of Cortland Ave.,
left today aboard the SS. United States for a tour of the European
countries and Israel.

Planning Book Series.

The first in a series of book
reviews will be presented by the
Sisterhood of Temple Beth . El
on Oct. 26, in the Temple build-
ing.
Prof. Woodburn Ross, of
Wayne University's English de-
partment, will be the reviewer
for the first program, at which
John Steinbeck's "Sweet Thurs-
day" will be discussed.
Subsequent books to be re-
viewed on consecutive Tuesdays
to follow will be Krutch's
"Measurer of Man," "Doll Mak-
er" by Arnow, and "Child of the
Century" by Ben Hecht.
In addition to reviewing the
books, Dr. Ross will provide
background information on the
writers themselves a n d the
forces within them which moti-
vate the ideas expressed 'in their
books.

MISS JUDY HEYMAN
Announcement was made this
week of the betrothal of Miss
Judy Heyman, .daughter of Mrs.
Samuel N. Heyman of Glendale
Avenue and the late Mr. Hey-
man, to Pvt. Sol Silver, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Harry D. Silver of
Richton Avenue.
Miss Heyman is a graduate of
Wayne University and is now a
Detroit Public Schools' teacher.
Pvt. Silver, a graduate of the
University of Michigan College
of Architecture, is now stationed
in San Francisco.
Both are active leaders in the
Zionist youth movement. Miss
Heyman was in Israel in July
for her second visit to the Jew-
ish state.
