LONDON, (JTA)—Madrid's Jewish community, which had
been denied by Spanish police the right to hold Rosh Hashanah
services in a Madrid hotel which offered better facilities than the
community's dingy cellar "synagogue," held Yom Kippur services
in the latter place, with more than 200 worshippers present.
Press reports here said that police called at the synagogue
to notify the worshippers to keep their voices low so that the
ceremonies could not be heard in the street.
