`Khamishia,' Israeli
Five-Scene Movie,
Comes to Carlton
For those interested in Israel,
"Khamishia," which comes to
the Carlton Theater on Fenkell,
Sunday, Oct. 17, is made to
order. This, the first full-length
program completely produced in
Israel, is equally rich in enter-
tainment and information.
It is comprised of five parts.
It begins with song, then re-
veals the strides made in Israel.
From this it goes into three
heart-rending and amusing ac-
counts of various aspects of life
in Israel today.
These, while fictional, were
inspired by reality. There is the
poignant account of a mother
separated from her children by
war, searching a n d finding
them—and then the dramatic
denouement. An agrarian epi-
sode has vitality, and is pictur-
esque, indicating how progress
is made in the midst of romance.
The final sequences deal with
farm, city, and government
skilfully intertwined by the
plight of an appealing small boy
and his cow.
It -is spoken in English, and
the entire cast is gratifyingly
competent. Also, the technical
aspects. of the film denote an
already mature .studio. The very
existence of the picture, and
what it shows as it unrolls en-
thrallingly, should prove richly
rewarding, emotionally and en-
tertainingly. -
For those interested in, what
others have to say, the New York
papers , went overboard for
"Khamishia." Perhaps an even
higher tribute, in view of the
newness of the motion picture
industry in Israel, were un-
grudging compliments from the
American motion picture profes-
sional press.
For those interested in what
their neighbors think, "Kha-
mishia" was privately screened
here last month for over two
hundred leaders of the Jewish
community here. Putting it very
simply, they loved it!
