"Coronation Forest" Symbol
Jews throughout the British
Commonwealth are raising $280,-
000 to establish a "Coronation
Forest" in Israel as a gesture of
loyalty and affection to the
Queen.
The Duke of Edinburgh, the
Queen's husband, said_ that it
was both the Queen's wish and
his wish that the forest "will
long remain a living testimony
that the good in man can break
through and outlast all past bit-
terness." He called the estab-
lishment of the forest "most
heartening in this age of tension
and misunderstanding."
The Duke recalled that when
God appeared to Solomon in a
dream and asked him what he
wanted, Solomon replied: "Give
Thy servant an understanding
heart."
"I am sorry to say that 'an
understanding heart' has not al-
ways been evident in the rela-
tions between our peoples," the
Duke said. "So it is for this very
reason that I would like to con-
gratulate — heartily congratu-
late — the originators of this
idea and also if I may to com-
pliment the state of Israel on
its gracious acceptance of the
scheme," he continued.
In accepting a commemorative
volume containing the names of
the forest's subscribers and also
a Noah's Ark for Prince Charles
and Princess Anne made from
an olive tree in the King George
