Latin American Zionists
Contradict Israel Policy

NEW YORK, (JTA) — The de-
cisions adopted by the majority
at the Latin American General
Zionist Conference in Santiago,
Chile, contradict the basic deci-
sion of the World Confederation
of General Zionists, Moshe Kol,
chairman of the Progressive
General Zionist Party in Israel,
stated in New York upon his re-
turn from the conference.
Kol charged that the declara-
tion solidarity with the General
Zionists in Israel adopted by the
majority at the conference vio-
lates the "gentlemen's agree-
ment" which preserved World
Confederation unity at the last
Zionist Congress. He also said
that the decision to establish a
Latin- American Confederation
countermands the decision
taken by the World Executive
of the Confederation,

'Tis Fate that flings the dice,
and as she flings
Of kings makes peasants,
and of peasants kings.

Note in Contrasts:
Letter from Israel

Interesting contrasts, reflect-
ing the thinking of the people
of Israel that ranges from se-
rious to the humorous, is con-
tained in a letter from Mrs.
Abraham Cohen, a former De-
troiter now in Israel, to Prof.
William Haber of the University
of Michigan. Mrs. Cohen wrote
in comment on the recent air
tragedy in Tel Aviv and on the
life of Israelis. as follows:
"Every now and then some-
thing happens here that shakes
us to the roots. I'm referring to
the miserable plane crash trag-
edy that occurred here recently
at the commemoration services
of the Israeli parachutists of
the last war. It simply hit below
the belt. Some of our finest
young people wiped out . . . by
a bolt from the sky, literally and
ironically . . . including the son
of Enzo Sereni and his wife of
less than a year. These two had
been the very first children at
Brenner. At funeral services
held throughout the length and
breadth of our country, words
were said, or rather mouthed,
because all were struck speech-
less by the needless untimely
deaths of these victims. It's over
... all that remains is the emp-
tiness and sadness. This is
such a small country . . such
a small family of families . . .
We just can't accept a loss
lightly.
"Otherwise all is well. The
heat is still on, the sun's heat
I mean. But it isn't too bad in-
doors, until the evening, when
all Israel (who can) retires to
porches and terraces. But most
wonderful of all has been the
beach this summer. The kids
and even we big ones are
browned evenly. Every year sees
n e w improvements on our
beaches. You should see the
really lovely bath house near
the Sharon (Hotel). It's truly
modern, colorful and clean, even
with flaura a n d fountain in
center. At first business was
bad, because the ladies had
gotten so used to doing a strip
on the shore. It seemed super-
fluous to give up the well de-
veloped art. Out of mere curios-
ity though more and more have
"tried" it and came out shower-
ed and convinced."
