Now that school is back in
session and the familiar sound
of confusion rings in the halls,
we are looking forward to all
the wonderful activities sched-
uled for the coming semester.
Before we look ahead, we still
have many lingering memories
of our summer vacation. One of
these was the MSTY (Michigan
State Temple Youth) an n u a 1
summer camp conclave. The
conclave was held at Camp
Nahelu, Aug. 26 to 29. It was four
days packed with fun. The new-
ly elected officers of MSTY are:
Les Lunsky, president; Fran
Levin,. secretary; Dick Gould,
treasurer; Judy Dickstein, na-
tion board member.
"End of a Dream" was the ap-
propriate theme for the first
dance of the semester at Berk-
ley High, sponsored by the Stu-
dent Council.
Two of the newcomers to
Berkley High are Rickey and
Ellen Schiller. They are former"
Detroiters who moved to Hunt-

Rickey is a senior and Ellen is
a sophomore.

BEN KATZMAN

Hi, everybody! I hope that
your vacations were as enjoyable
as mine—and now back to
school we go. Last week we had
the usual first week mix-ups,
with things like boys being put
in girl's health classes occurring
daily, but we all are now in
the old routine of school once
again.
The school paper, the Mercury,
launched its campaign the first
day of school and sold a special
edition for those crazy mixed-up
freshies who were all agog about
their first day at a real high
school. The purpose of the mag-
azine was to attempt to un-mix
them a bit with things like
floor plans, schedules, etc. This
year with the subscriptions they
are selling a bonus stub good
to see the movie, "Miss Grant
Takes Richmond," which will be
presented*Friday in the school
auditorium. Another wonderful
and much waited for event is
taking place on that same day—
the Mumford-Central football
game. It is the opening game of
the season. It will be at Central
and all Mumfordites hope alma
mater will make them proud.
On Sept. 12 the Councilettes
held their opening meeting for
125 girls, a membership tea, at
the home of Winnie Croll.
The Temple Israel Youth
Group on Sept. 19 had a lunch-
eon and open board meeting.
The meeting ended with a pro-
gram telling us about MSTY
(Michigan State Temple Youth),
given by the cultural committee.
The co-chairmen are Nita Lowe
and Walter Bagdade.
