Launch $57,000,000 Bond Drive
In response to a call from heads

$51,000,000 in the next' four
months through Israel bonds for
industrial and agricultural de-
velopment.
Following an address by Am-
bassador Abba S. Eban of Israel,
the 400 Jewish leaders from the
United States and Canada acted
to launch an intensive drive for
the sale of Israel bonds in North
and Latin American countries,
Holland, Switzerland and Bel-
gium.
David Horowitz, Israel's fin-
ancial expert, who was recently
named Governor of the newly-
established Bank of Israel, out-
lined the economic objectives of
his country.
Mr. Horowitz listed the "four
main objectives of all economic
policy in Israel":
"1. Transfer of large seg-
ments of Jewish population
from the Diaspora into Israel.
"2. Economic absorption
and integration of this new
population.
"3. Transformation of this
transplanted population ac-
cording to the needs of the
country.
"4. Transformation of the
country, and the expansion of
its productive facilities by a
large- scale application of
capital and skill."
Twenty percent of the funds
used in the Development Bud-
get, Mr. Horowitz said, has been
derived from the State of Israel
Bond Issue.
Senator Kefauver Supports
Israel on. Arming of. Arabs

States Senator Estes Kefauver,
concluding a two-day visit to Is-
rael, revealed before leaving that
he had told Prime Minister Mo-

Arab state, and I shall proclaim
my attitude on this point clearly
when I return home."
Sen. Kefauver said he has been
"greatly impressed" with devel-
opments in Israel that he saw on
this trip, especially with prog-

of Israel bond campaigns in var-
ious parts of the United States.
Julian B. Venezky, chairman
of the executive committee of
the Israel bond organization, re-
ported that some $24,000,000 had
been received in cash on ac-
count of commitments for the
purchase of Israel Bonds since
the beginning of 1954.
The Conference heard reports
by the spokesmen for men's and
women's delegations that re-
turned recently from Israel.

Of 'Christian Amendment'
The so-called "Christian
Amendment" to the U. S. Con-
stitution has, for all practical
purposes, been rejected by the
Senate Judiciary Committee and
may be considered a dead issue,
according to Dr. David Petergor-
sky, executive director of the
American Jewish Congress.
By failing to act before the
close of Congress, the Senate
group, in elect, killed the pro-
posal to amend the Constitution
to recognize "the law and au-
thority of Jesus Christ, Saviour
and Ruler of Nations."
