Zionist Council Program
Of Education Activities
NEW YORK, (JTA)—Detals
of the broad program of infor-
mational and cultural activities
set up by the American Zionist
Council have been announced
here by the Council chairman,
Rabbi Irving Miller.
The program will include an
increased flow of American pro-
fessionals, writers and broad-
casting commentators to Israel;
and a vast increase in efforts to
counter anti-Israeli propaganda
by the projected Arab propagan-
da office in this country, by
such organizations as the Amer-
ican Friends of the Middle East,
and by "that handful of men
and women who traduce the fair
name of Judaism by bearing
false witness against their breth-
ren."
The program will also include
increased efforts on behalf of
Jewish education and the spread
of He b r e w culture; forums;
youth activities; the establish-
ment of regional offices by the
Council in other large cities out-
side New York; and a series of
regional conferences.
New Yeshivah Addition
To Aid Group's Expansion
A new addition to the Yeshi-
vath Beth Yehudah, necessitated
by a continuous expansion in
enrollment during the past sev-
eral years, is scheduled for com-
pletion in November.
The building, with windows of
glass-block construction, will in-
corporate many new facilities to
the school program, providing
Jewish youth with more tho•-
ough religious and secular train-
ing.
Some of the buildings notalle
features will be large, airy class-
rooms, equipped with the new-
est facilities for study, a two-
way public address system to
pipe in educational broadcasts
and recordings, area for display
eases to exhibit work of pupils.
A scientific laboratory to meet
intermediate and high school
needs, a library with extensive
reference materials an arts and
crafts room are some of the
other advantages the annex V.I1
offer Yeshivah students.
On the top floor will be a Beth
ramidrash for services and
studies of senior students. Near-
by will be a large, multi-purpose
room for meetings and lecturers.
Meyer Weingarden, honorary
contractor, and Samuel Hecht-
man, head of the building com-
mittee, have speeded construc-
tion on the building to make it
available for classes this year.

There is no doubt that Mr. Lie, who was among the first to

had ruled, starting with the UNSCOP studies and concluding with
the partition decision, that there should be a small Jewish state,
and it was his job to see to it that UN authority should not be
flaunted. That is why he so bitterly resented Arab defiance of the
UN and the waging of war by the Arab states on Israel.

authority by waging war. But there was an undermining of
recommendations by "Arab intransigence, British passiVeness,
American inconsistency." Mr. Lie had "hoped for more from the
United States" in efforts to implement the partition resolution.

Abe was there, alert, discreet, full of energy and ideas. I had a deep admiration
for his intelligence, and an affection for him which was strengthened by his own

"No doubt Abe Feller was a victim of the witch hunt, of the awful pressure
of the hysterical assault upon. the United Nations that reactionaries were promot-

in his lawyerlike respect for due process. He knew that no American in the Sec-
retariat had ever been indicted for espionage or • any other subversive activity
against his country. - Although he felt as strongly as I that the United Nations
officials who had pleaded the Fifth Amendment had betrayed their obligation and
should be removed, he had a genuine sympathy for the victims of the headline-
hunting investigations and resented deeply the 'smear' against the whole of the
Secretariat which was so assiduously advanced. Day after day, he followed the
Senate hearings and saw the tragedy unfold. He saw the hysteria invade high
places and sweep .his country in violation of fundamental principles of fair play

."In the Cause of Peace" by Trygve Lie is a most important
work. It is a genuine review of seven years UN activities. It will
live as a most important reference book on the history of our time
for those generations to come who will be studying the background
of the UN from the days of its creation.
