Brotherhood Chairman
Pr esident Eisenhower will
again serve as honorary • chair-
man of Brotherhood Week, to
be observed Feb. 20 to 27 under
the sponsorship of the National
Conference of Christians and
Jews, it was announced by Ben
Duffy, president of Batten, Bar-
ton, Durstine & Osborn, Inc.,
advertising agency, who is serv-
ing as general chairman of
Brotherhood Week.
"Every man is indeed his
brother's keeper," the President
declared in his letter of accept-
ance, adding that "no man, in
the troubled sea of mankind,
can be an island."
Chess Champion Byrne
Slates Exhibition Here
Don Byrn e, 1953 U.S. Open
chess champion and one of the
nation's leading chess expon-
ents, will play a 40 board simul-
taneous match at 2:30 p.m.,
Sept. 19, at the D. W. Simons
Center, 4000 Tuxedo.
In the recent international
chess match with Russia, Byrne
played the fourth board for the
United States t e a m, winning
three pOints out of four, which
----was high score for the U.S. team.
He won the brilliancy prize of
the tournament for one of his
games.
Egyptian Writes Foreward
To "History of Zionism"
LONDON, (JTA)—A condensed
version of the "History of Zion-
ism," by the veteran British
Zionist Israel Cohen, has been
published in Egypt with a fore-
word by Egyptian Premier Gam-
al Abdel Nasser.
According to a report received
here, Col. Nasser says that the
reason for publishing this his-
tory of Zionism is to enable
Egyptians to understand Zionism
from the viewpoint of a Zionist.

Abe Kasle, president of the
United Hebrew Schools and
Louis LaMed, chairman of the
Midrasha board, announce the
engagement of Dr. E p h r i a m
Shmueli as a member of the
staff of the Midrasha.
Dr. Shmueli, who comes to
Midrasha from Haifa, Israel,
where he is principal of the
Teachers' Institute, is the author
of numerous works on Jewish
history and sociology. He was
invited by the Jewish Agen'cy to
conduct a teachers 'seminar in
the United States and Canada
and was recently commissioned
to complete the late Dr. Simeon
Dubnow's "History of the Jews. 4
The opening convocation ex-
ercises of the Midrasha will be
held Wednesday, 8 p.m., in the
Rose Sittig Cohen Building. The
instructors will then be intro-
duced. Community singing and
Israeli dances will follow.
The Midrasha is an educa-
tional institution of higher Jew-
ish learning, conducted by the
United Hebrew Schools. T h e
prerequisite f o r admission is
the completion of a recognized
Hebrew high school course or
the equivalent thereof.

organizations and individuals as

The world-renowned DUBLIN
PLAYERS will open the 26th
consecutive season of Detroit
Town Hall, at 11 a.m., Oct. 13, in
Fisher Theater. "Pygmalion,"
classic comedy, will be presented
by the company which hails
from the famous Abbey and
Gates Theaters in Dublin. There
will be 18 varied programs fea-
turing internationally knoWn
speakers, music and entertain-

ary at Brandeis University,
named for the late Newton com-
munal and civic leader and
philanthropist, will shortly be
constructed on the University's
•campus. The infirmary, under-
written by Mrs. David Stoneman
and family of Newton, will be
completed by late fall, shortly
after the opening of the next
academic year.

Israel Repays $2,625,729
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
government of Israel made an
installment payment of $2,625,-
729 to the United States Export-
Import Bank on principal and
interest of the $135,000,000 loan
which Israel received from the
bank.

Members' of DETROIT AUXIL-
IARY recently visited Ann Ar-
bor where they presented a
blind veteran with a cane and
made arrangements for a Braille
instructor. Soon, they will pro-
vide him with a Braille watch.
On Wednesday, the group guest-
ed on Ladies Day, the television
show on Channel 2, and Thurs-
day, went to Dearborn Veterans
Hospital to service patients. The
group will meet Monday, at the
Memorial Home.
