Germany Completes
First Vessel for Israel.

HAMBURG, (JTA)-With Is-
rael's flag fluttering in tree
I breeze, and her name, "Dagan..'
emblazoned on her sides in both
Hebrew and Latin lettering, tile

der the German-Israel repara-
tions treaty slid down the ways
in the Stuelcken Shipyards her
The "Dagan" is • a spruce,
7,000-ton ship,.385 feet in length,
56 feet wide, with a height of 31
feet at the main deck. She has a
draft of 25 feet, and can make
over 14 knots an hour-.
This latest addition to Israel's
merchant marine has four cargo
holds, and a refrigeration store-
room with a capacity of 20,000
cubic feet, in addition to accom-
modations for 12 passengers. The
Zim Sholah Line, new owner of
the "Dagan," plans to use her as
a fruit carrier between Haifa
and European ports.
The ship was dedicated by
Mrs. Franz Boehm, wife of Prof.
Boehm, who headed the German
delegation at the negotiations at
The Hague where the reparl-
tons treaty was drawn between
West Germany and Israel.
An Israeli crew will take over
the "Dagan" at the end of next
month, and sail her to Haifa
with reparations goods.

Neighborhood Youngsters
Aid in Fight on Polio

Hearing of the desperate need
for funds to fight polio, young-
sters on Glendale Ave., between
Wildemere and Dexter, decided
to hold a benefit party of their
own.
About 40 neighborhood young-
sters got together, sold lemonade
and other refreshments, provid-
ed games and gathered together
$25 which they are giving to the
Emergency March of Dimes.
Spearheading the effort were
Danny Syme, 8, Ronny Serlin, 9,
Roger. Blau, 9, Frank (Tex) Lip-
son, 10, Alan Lipson, 9. David
Lipson, 7, Norman Platt, 10, and
Larry Platt, 6.

Anti-Religious Drive
Intensified in Russia

WASHINGTON, (JTA) - The
Soviet government is continuing
"without let-up" its propaganda
drive "to stamp out religion from
one end of the Soviet Union to
another, the United States In-
formation Agency reports.
Communists writers, the agen-
cy said in a cable from Europe,
are turning out stacks of pam-
phlets ridiculing Christian and
Jewish religious traditions. The
dispatch emphasized that the
Soviet campaign to destroy re-
ligion is being intensified every
day.

Predict Strong Mapai Party
By Next Legislative Election

LONDON, (JTA)-The Mapai
party in Israel should be even
stronger than it is now, by the
time the next Israeli elections
are held, in the opinion of ,an
editorial in the Times of London,

Burmese army officers has ar-
rived here for training with the
Israeli forces, according to Pre-
mier Moshe Sharett.
