Message of Israel
Observes 20th Year

In cities throUghout the na-
tion, ceremonies are currently
taking place celebrating the 20th
anniversary of the Message of
Israel, the oldest Jewish pro-
gram on the air.
Founded in 1934 by Rabbi
Jonah B. Wise, Message of Is-
rael sends a program of prayer,
song, and inspiration over the
American Broadcasting Com-
pany's network each Sunday.
Heard on more than 200 stations,
including WXYZ in Detroit, the
Message presents the nation's
leading rabbis in a variety of
discourses.
Originally a project of the
United Jewish Laymen's Corn-
mittee, the program is now co-
sponsored by the Union of
American Hebrew Congregations.
David J. Wise is the program's
director.
The broadcast originates in
Central Synagogue, New York,
and features the temple's solo-
ist, Frederick Lechner, and its
choir, directed by Lazor Weiner.
In September, the Message of
Israel will feature a special
series of four Tercentenary ad-
dresses by Dr. Solomon B. Free-
hof, of Pittsburgh, according to
an announcement by Dr. Maur-
ice N. Eisendrath, the Union's
president.
