Tail and Rise of Israel'

A Christian's R evelation of Triumph

William L. Hull, an American missionary in Israel, who has
experienced the dangers of the Arab-Jewish war, describes "a
Christian's frank revelation of Jewish suffering and triumph - in
"The Fall. and Rise of Israel," published by Zondervan Publishing
House, Grand Rapids, Mich.
It is an unusually exciting book from many , points of view.
The author, who has advocated justice for Israel for many years,
had left an impression with his ideas upon Justice I. C. Rand
of the Supreme Court of Canada, who was a member of UNSCOP
(United Nations Special Committee on Palestine), whose foreword
to this book refers to Mr. Hull's "words of high admiration for
the Jewish people."
While the able author pays honor to Israel and the courage
of the people who struggled for liberty, he makes "no apology"
for a stand regarding "the national guilt of Israel concerning
their Messiah." Thus, he adheres to Christological views with
regard to their rejection of the Christian faith. But he adds that
"to charge Israel does not excuse anti-Semitism, rather the re-
verse: for the anti-Semite is equally or •even more guilty of the
rejection of Christ and all He stood for."
Thus, the missionary holds fast to his principles while paying
glory to a fallen nation that has risen anew to reclaim its birth-
right.
In its totality, Mr. Hull's "The Fall and Rise of Israel" is a
keen observation of what had happened under his very eyes. It
is a good historical analysis of the rise of the Jewish state. It
covers a lot of ground-including the events that preceded the
United Nations decision of Nov. 29, 1947, and the founding of the
state, the various UN committee hearings, the actions at Lake
Success, etc.
Dedicated to his wife and to David 'Ben-Gurion, this book is
a work that emerges sanctified by true devotion, by a spiritual
idealism. It is a commendable undertaking and a thrilling revela-
tion by a Christian leader who did not depend upon hearsay but
had gathered his facts first hand during residence in Israel.

Saskatoon Jewry Opposes Military Courts in
Bible Teaching in Schools Romania Sentence 8

SASKATOON, Sask., (JTA)-
Religious education in the form
of readings from the Old and
New Testaments will be intro-
duced in the Saskatoon public
school system next September,
the local school board has de-
cided.
The decision. which the board
said would give the school chil-
dren "an opportunity to come to
know both the Old and New
Testaments," was opposed by the
Jewish community and by local
-labor groups.
It came about as - a comprom-
ise on a proposal originally made
five months ago by the Saska-
toon Ministerial Association that
school children be given a half-
hour of religious "instruction"
on one or more days each week
in the elementary schools.
