IN MEMORIAM: MORRIS FISHER

CONSIDERING that the worthy ex-President of the Hebrew. Benevolent

Society, Morris Fisher, who passed away on the 13th day of June,

1954, had devoted thirty years of his life to the cause of our Insti-

tution, and through his untiring efforts contributed immensely to the

expansion, improvement and exultation of its noble services, and

CONSIDERING that, having held many offices, and in holding such
offices did put forth every effort humanly possible to enhance the
position of the Institution in the Jewish Community of Detroit,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, at a General Meeting of the Officers

and Board of Directors of the Hebrew Benevolent Society held on

the evening of Saturday, June 19, 1954, that the untimely demise

of. Mr. Morris Fisher is considered an irreplacable loss to our Insti-
tution;

THAT, through this Resolution, and in other ways, we are trying to

perpetuate the memory of our beloved and worthy Morris Fisher;

THAT, we all mourn this great loss and, in the name of the Institu-
tion, its thousands of members, friends and affiliated Detroit organi-

sations, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Sylvia Fisher and

her son, Lewis, his grandchild and sister, with the hope that they

may find consolation in the exemplary life he lead and the good
name he has left behind.

Dies of Heart Attack

AMSTERDAM, ( J T A ) — Dr.
Michael Amir, Israel Minister to
the Netherlands, died here of
a heart attack while- participat-
ing in the opening of the "Land
of the Bible" exhibit. The 58-
year-old diplomat, Israel's first
Minister to the Benelux coun-
tries and afterwards its first
envoy to The Hague, was a for-
mer Romanian Zionist leader.
Dr. Amir was given a state
funeral, the first time in Dutch
history a Jewish diplomat was
accorded this honor. A military
escort of over 2,000 men accom-
panied his remains for burial
here.

were Dr. M. Luns, Foreign Min-
ister, three members of the dip-
lomatic corps, the chief rabbis of
the Sephardic and Ashkenazi
communities and the personal
representatives of Queen Juliana
and Price Bernhard.
