AFL Assails Arrests
Of Jews in Romania

WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
American Federation of Labor
issued a statement here con-
demning the mass arrests of
Jewish leaders in Romania and
calling upon the entire civilized
world to protest against "these
outrage's."
"We know from bitter experi-
ence that such outrages are to
be expected from any totalitari-
an regime," the statement Says.
"A few years ago, the leaders of
the Kremlin launched a so-called
"cultural" pogrom. Thousands of
Jews in Russia were ousted from
their jobs, ostracized, jailed and
exiled for the alleged crime of
"Zionism." The same pattern
was followed in other curtain
countries, including Romania.
"The civilized world must unite
in condemning these outrages.
The wholesale imprisonment of
the leaders of the Romanian
Jewish community on trumped
up charges proves the bankrupt-
cy of Communist justice. This
terrorism must be exposed to
pitiless publicity. The entire
world Must know that Commu-
nist Romania rules by oppres-
sion, Universal condemnation of
such racial crimes is the only
means we have to force the Com-
munist rulers of Romania to re-
lease the innocent victims of this
official pogrom," :the. - ta,telxielit:
