House of Representatives Adopts
Rabaut's 'Under God' Amendment
Special to The Jewish News
WASHINGTON, D. C.—Final Congressional approval was
given Wednesday morning to H. J. Res. 243, the proposal in-
troduced by Rep. Louis C. Rabaut (D., Mich.), to amend the
Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of
America, so as to include the words "Under God." Final ac-
tion on the bill was accomplished in the closing hours of the
day on the floor of the House. It is the hope of Congressman
Rabaut that the President will sign the bill on or before Flag
Day, June 14.
"This comes at an eminently appropriate time," said
Rep. Rabaut. "All true Americans, to the last man, woman
and child will reaffirm, in the words of the Pledge of Al-
legiance to the Flag, their devotion to 'one nation under God,'
just as, in spirit, did their fathers at the inception of this
Republic."

There's no more dignified form of
honoring thy Father than to plant

Announcing the - Ruling of the "Kosher"
Seal "Plombe" To Be Affixed on the
Wing of All Kosher-Slaughtered Poultry.
Beginning with June 13, 1954, all kosher-slaughtered poultry
must have a "Kosher" Seal on the wing, as decreed by the
Detroit Rabbinate.
A fowl without such a seal will not be considered as Kosher.
A Shochet who will issue, or allow to be issued, a slaughtered
fowl without the prescribed Plombe from the Vaad Hara-
bonim will place his license as a Shochet in jeopardy. Only
the "Kosher" Seal which will be issued by the Vaad Hara-
bonim. will be recognized.
Before our own permanent Plombes will be ready for use, we
'shall issue a blue and white copyrighted Plombe. On the
front will appear a Jewish Star, the Hebrew word Kosher in
the center of it, and Kosher in English on the bottom. On
the reverse side will be Kosher in Hebrew in the center and
Kosher in English on the bottom.
In a couple of weeks, when our permanent Plombes will be
ready for use, we shall announce their description. We are
appealing to our people in the Jewish community to give us
their full cooperation in this important matter. Let no one
buy a slaughtered fowl without the prescribed Plombe, to
insure Kashruth supervision in Detroit.
We are thankful to the Jewish Community Council, to the
Kosher Butchers Association, to the English-Jewish Press
and the various interested Jewish organizations in the city
for their full cooperation for the sake of Kashruth.
