T h e JNF recommends the
planting of trees in Israel as
one of the most dignified forms
of honoring father on Father's
Day, or to perpetuate his mem-
ory, in the forests of Israel.
"T hese trees help drain
swamps, save soil from erosion,
raise the level of the under-
ground water, give needed shade,
invigorate soil and air, beautify
Israel's landscape, anchor shift-
ing sand and dunes, cover hills
with foliage and timber, create
parks and • playgrounds, act as
windbreakers protecting young
crops, and provide work for
many new immigrants, helping
to expedite their absorption into
the life of the land," David Sil-
ver, president of the JNF Coun-
cil, stated.
"The Jewish National Fund, In
providing this form of paying
respect to parents in their life-
time, or by perpetuating the
memories of parents, is raising
the standard of gift giving on
such occasions as Father's Day.
Tree Certificates provide an in-
ner satisfaction to the recipient
of the gift add dignity to the
giver, and help the afforesta-
tion of the land, which is so
vitally important to the redemp-
tion of Israel's soil,"
