Mrs. Weizmann Received
By Argentine President

BUENOS AIRES, (JTA)-Pres-
ident Juan Peron received Mrs.
Vera. . Weizmann, widow of
Israel's first President, in an
audience which lasted half an
hour.
Mrs. Weizmann, who was ac-
companied by Israel Minister
Arieh Kubovi and a representa-
tive of the local Jewish commu-
nity, presented the President
with a handsomely bound copy
of Dr. Weizmann's autobiogra-
phy.
Gen. Peron expressed his con-
viction that Israel would con-
tribute much to the development
of the Near East, because of its
"spirit and experience." As a
sign of the Jews' capabilities in
the field of agriculture he
pointed to the success of the
Jewish agricultural colonies in
Argentina.
He also expressed the hope
that Israel would succeed in
gaining the confidence of the
Arabs in the Near East and in
achieving peace with them.

Fail to Consider Jewish Scholars Par
With Other Sects in College Entrance

NEW YORK, (JTA)-A four-1
year study of the experiences of
over 1,300 New York State schol-
arship winners in seeking ad-
mission to college reveals that
Catholic and Protestant high
school graduates have a higher
acceptance rate than Jewish
students and that such discrim-
ination could not be explained
by any differences in grades, ex-
tra-curricular activity, residence,
or other factors, the American
Jewish Congress announced.
These latest findings, based on
two separate surveys conducted
by the American Jewish Con-
gress among 1,347 scholarship
winners of 1950 and 1952, show
that the combined acceptance
rates for 1950 and 1952 were 97.6
per cent for Catholic applicants;
97.0 per cent for Protestant ap-
plicants and 84.7 per cent for
Jewish applicants.
A significant finding of the

study was that in 1950 and 1952,
the public colleges operated by
New York City accepted all ap-
plicants in the scholarship
group, regardless of religion or
ancestry.
On the other hand, the evi-
dence suggests that the admis-
sion practices of New York City
and State private colleges-de-
ncminational and non-denom-
inational - do not yet match
those of the city's public colleges.
The acceptance rate by New
York City's private non-denom-
inational colleges in 1950 was
100 per cent for both Catholic
and Protestant male applicants.
The rate for Jewish males was
only 87.2 per cent.
In 1952, the acceptance rate
for these same colleges was 100
per cent for Catholic and Pro-
testant males, and 88.7 per cent
for Jewish male scholarship
winners.

Bar Israeli Delegates
From Indonesian Talks

LONDON, (JTA) - A meeting
of the Asian Socialist Bureau
opened in Burma after a last
minute change of venue when
the Indonesian government re-
fused to admit Israeli delegates
who were attending the meet,
ing originally scheduled to be
held there.
Indonesia has not formally
recognized Israel and wanted to
avoid ill will in the Moslem
world.
The action has been attacked
by the powerful Masjumi Party,
the _country's largest party and
an avowedly Moslem movement.
Three of its leaders, including
former Foreign Minister Mo-
hamed Rum, have issued a
statement condemning the ban
on the Israelis. A similar state-
ment has been issued by the
Indonesian Socialist Party.

Statue to Religious Liberty in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, re-
cently was the speech of Sidney G. Kusworn, chairman of the
Bnai Brith national commission on Americanism and civic affairs.
Kusworm also laid a wreath at the foot of the Bnai Brith Statue.
Representatives of the three major religious faiths in America
participated in the ceremony. Looking at the wreath from left
to right are Dr. WILLIAM W. TOMLINSON, vice-president of Tem-
ple University, who spoke for the Protestant faith; KUSWORM;
Judge ROBERT V. BOLGER, of the Orphans Court in Philadelphia,
chairman of the Americanism Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar
Association, representing the Catholic faith; and WILLIAM M.

LONDON, (JTA)-The Gener-
al Assembly of the Church of
Scotland, meeting in Edinburgh,'
condemned anti-Semitism and
called upon its members "to be
on the alert to oppose any ap-
pearance of it in this country."
Rev. Charles A. Smith, who
presented the report on which
the church warning on anti-
Semitism was based, called the
conference's attention to recent
reports of anti-Semitic discrim-
ination in golf clubs near Glas-
gow. Rev. Smith sharply re-
minded the clergymen that the
peoplewho discriminated
against Jews in golf clubs might
very well be members or even
lay leaders of the Church of
Scotland.
