of Buena Vista Ave., recently
announced the engagement of
their daughter, Beverly Eileen,
to Bernard Melvin Kay, son of
Mr. and Mrs, Harry Kay, of San
Juan Dr.
The bridegroom-elect attends
Des Moines Still College of Os-
teopathy and Surgery, and is a
member of Lambda Omega
Gamma professional fraternity.
A December wedding is planned.

Discover Ancient Sites
JERUSALEM, (JTA)--The
sites of seven ancient settle-
ments have been uncovered in
the Beersheba area. The excava-
tions were carried out jointly by
the Israel Museum and French
archaeologist Jean Paroux.

The highest possible academic
honor bestowed on a doctoral
candidate in the University of
Michigan school of education
the annual Burke Aaron Hins-
dale Scholar Award--was given
last week to Alvin Kaplan.
The award is based on schol-
arship and professional promise.
Kaplan has a straight "A" aver-
age in his graduate work at U.
of M.
Kaplan, 26, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Manuel Kaplan, of 858
Lakepointe Rd., Grosse Pointe,
Mich. He lives at. 8255 Manor
with his wife, Harriet, a teacher
at McFarlane School in Detroit.
Graduating from Grosse Pointe
High School in 1945, Kaplan en-
tered the U.S. Air Force, follow-
! ing which he entered U. of M.,
! earning his B.A. in psychology in
1951. In 1953. he earned his
M.A. in clinical psychology at
Wayne University, and presently
is working on his doctorate in
child psychology at Michigan.
Kaplan also is senior psychol-
ogist at Boys Republic, 22305
Inkster Rd., and is on the con-
sulting staff of the Psychological
Consultation Service, directed by
Dr. R. Edward Berman.
A member of the American
Psychological Association and
numerous professional organi-
zations, Kaplan has been elected
to membership in Psi Chi, na-
tional psychological honorary so-
ciety; Phi Delta Kappa, educa-
tional honorary fraternity; Sig-
tha Xi, society for the promotion
of scientific research: . and Phi
Sigma Delta social fraternity.
Following graduation in 1955,
Kaplan plans to further his
studies in New. York.
