Sgt. Sachse Brings
Back Bronze Star
From Korean Battles
Sgt. Charles H. Sachse has
returned from Korea, and is
presently on furlough visiting
here with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Kolom Z. Sachse, of 3250
Burlingame.
Sgt. Sachse, prior to his en-
trance into the armed froces,
was a student at the University
of Michigan. He served in Ko-
rea from March, 1943 to March
of this year, and returned to
this country only last month.
He brought with him a bronze
star medal and accompanying
citation which reads in part:
"Sgt. Sachse distinguished
himself by meritorious service in
connection with military opera-
tions against an armed enemy,
in Korea. As computer in the
battalion fire direction center,
Sgt. Sachse discharged the re-
sponsibilities with enthusiasm
and skill. . . His highly capable
performance displayed his un-
derstanding of the need for rap-
id fire and the safety of friendly
troops. . . Sgt. Sachse's exemp-
lary record reflect great credit
on himself and the military
service."
Entering the armed forces in
September, 1952, Sgt. Sachse
served in Korea with Headquar-
ters Battery of the 158th Field
Artillery Battalion, following
basic training at Camp Chaffee,
Ark.
His division fought engage-
ments at Old Baldy, T-Bone and
Eerie Hills, Heartbreak Ridge and
Sand Bag Castle before the ces-
sation of combat. Sgt. Sachse,
who will be discharged in Sep-
tember, says he probably will
return to his studies at U. of M.
