Celebration Here Saturday Evening

Rabbi Morris Adler will be the
principal speaker at the celebra-
tion of Israel's sixth anniversary,
this Saturday, 8:30 p.m., at Adas
Shalom Synagogue. The pro-
gram, as in the past five years,
has been arranged jointly by the
Zionist and Community Coun-
cils, whose presidents, Irving W.
Schulussel and • Sidney M. She-
vitz, are co-chairmen of the
event
An integrated program script
has been prepared for the occa-
sion by harry Goldstein. There
will be piano selections by Sadie
Cooper graver, accompanied by
Lillian Robbins Zellman; Israeli
dances by Habonim and vocal
selections by the Hashomer Hat-
zair chorus.
The program will open with
the massing and posting of
colors by the Jewish War Vet-
erans, with Sol M. Hoberman,
Michigan JWV Department com-
mander in charge. Rabbi Israel
Halpern, who will represent the
Council of Orthodox Rabbis, will
offer a prayer.
• Special services will be dedi-
cated to Yom Atzmaut, Israel
independence day, in local
synagogues.

zatiOn of Detroit and natonal
religious groups proclaimed the
Fifth Day of Iyar—May 8—as
"Yom Atzmaut Shabbat' in
celebration of "A skhalta
d'Geula" — Israel's Independ-
ence.
Special services, as decreed by
Israel's Chief Rabbi Isaac Ha-
levi Herzog, will be held in all
synagogues Friday night and
Saturday.
