'Awarness 1954'—Who Will
Mourn the Nazis' Victims?
Editor, The Jewish News:
On April 11 I attended the
memorial services for the Jews
who perished during the revolt
of the Warsaw Ghetto. When I
returned home I said to our
children: "These Jews died in
our time, but who will mourn
these people if we don't?" Then
I wrote the following poem:
Members of the linen and laundry drivers section of the
services division in the Allied Jewish Campaign recently held their
armvial truncheon at the Davison Jewish Center and pledged sup-
port to the drive. Among those present were, left to right: Stand-
ing, ERNEST ZIPSER, SAMUEL A. CASCADE, LOUIS BEN PER-
LOVE, GEORGE GALLAGER, JACK STERN, JULIUS GERSON;
seated, JOHN ISAACS, co-chairman of the services division; A.
KING, guest; ISAAC LITWAK, chairman of the section; ARTHUR
M. GRAFF and HARRY SCHUMER, associate chairman of the
division.
Colorful Program Marks Conclusion
Of 30th Anniversary Histadrut Drive
Nearly 1000 workers and
friends of Histadrut gathered
April 20 at the Adas Shalom at
the annual Histadrut Third
Seder, the closing celebration of
the drive. The star-studded pro-
gram which included Emma
Schaver, Dan Frohman, and Can-
tor Abram Blecherovlcz was ar-
ranged in the form of a modern
Haggadah which was ably pre-
sentetd by Harry Goldstein, ra-
dio and TV star.
In his opening remarks, Mor-
ris Lieberman, chairman, indi-
cated that though a number of
divisions had encountered dif-
ficulties as a result of the pres-
ent unsettled economic situation,
the campaign as a whole had
gone ahead on schedule and
that the final tally following
the mop-up phase would indi-
cate a successful campaign.
The audience enthusiastically
received the combined Farband-
Halevy and Workmen's Circle
Choirs with Emma Schaver
soloist, as they did the fine rep-

Group provided a colorful note
by their presentation of four
Israel f o 1 k dances. Rebecca
Frohman was piano accompan-
ist throughout. Representative
groups from practically all the
landsmanschaften and societies
were present. A number of them
utilized the occasion to present
their annual contributions to
the campaign. Among them were
Joshua Joyrich, Chaim Weitz-
mann Society; Harry Utchenik
and Louis Rubin, Ludea Social
Club, and Mr. Altman, Eishish-
ker Society. The furniture" divi
sion made an additional sub-
stantial contribution. A special
contribution was made by Mr.
and Mrs. Jacob Domnitch in
honor of their 35th wedding an-
niversary.
Officers and the executive staff
are engaged in preparing plans
for mopping up operations and
the collection of outstanding
pledges.

AWARENESS 1954
Who will mourn these untimely dead
Cut off from the stream of life?
Who will chant their praises?
Who will sorrow their tragic end?
Who will laud their heroic stand?
,
Who will remember their lives and
learn
The profound lesson their deeds impart?
Who will contemplate their loves and
hopes,
And a faith stronger than life itself?
That faith rebuilt them anew
For a struggle ancient as the Jew.
They fought again . . . it was more
glorious than living,
And though losing . . . they live on
and on.
Immortal I shall never be,
It is destined for the martyred few,
Six million Jews thus immortal became,
Oh, come, it is for us to commemorate!

On Reform and Litvaks
Editor, The Jewish News:
Needless to say your Weekly is
getting better and better.
I hope you won't mind if I
supplement an article in your
Passover issue on the subject of
Reform and Litvaks by B. G.
Richards. •
Dr. Hoffman does not eat
sandwiches made up of soap and
spikes. He is a very nice old man
when you meet him. There was
a time when he used to write in
Hebrew long before anybody else
was doing it and it was a beau-
tiful Hebrew at that. One of his
teachers was the poet I. Ch.
Tavjov. Between you and me, Dr.
Hoffman is approaching 90.
Mr. Lang, mentioned hi the
same article, is what they call
a roasted Litvak from .a metro-
polis by the name of Schkud. To
your surprise, a very well-known
Rabbi in this town, namely Rab-
bi Fram, is also a Litvak born
in the city of Rossein which is
about the size of Nashville,
Michigan.
To top it all, the editor of
your paper, if I am not mistak-
en, was also born a Litvak in
the same vicinity where David
Sarnoff and Dr. Weitzmann were
born.
Yours truly,
MENDEL RUBIN

(The editor acknowledges with
pride that he is a Litvak, as al-
luded to in this letter).
