named to the national Rabbinic
Advisory Commission established
by Yeshiva University to guide
its newly - formed Community
Service Division which will pro-
vide Jewish congregations in the
United States and Canada with
service in seven major areas, it
was announced here. by Rabbi
Morris Berman, president of the
Rabbinic Alumni.

'Cap'n Sammy's Showboat' I

The TV program, "Quiz 'Em
all the Air," was fortunate to
have for its guests Mary Star-
man, Jim Moss, Anette Schul-
man, and Rachel Laidley. Their
alternates were LaVon Waller.
and Jim Dahl. They were en-
gaged in a current events con-
test between Mumford and
Cooley High. They emerged
victorious and were rewarded
with a new 25" television set
which was placed in the home
economics department.
The Councilettes last week
elected these officers: President,
Edwina Croll; vice - president,
Ruth Ann Radway; administra- I
ting v.p., Merna Cohen; record-
ing secretary, Sherry Tobias;
financial secretary, Phyllis Barr; '
corresponding secretary, Lor-
raine Small. They will be in-
stalled at a mother and daugh-
ter tea at Temple Israel, May 9.
Seniors are looking forward
to their annual senior trip to
the nation's capitol, May 12 to
16.
Murnford's clothing drive for
needy children will begin as
soon as we return to school from
vacation. There will be prizes for
WI those people who bring in 10
pounds of clothing so start
getting your bundles together
. (It's also a good chance to
clean out the closet that has
been waiting all winter for such
an opportunity.)

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cohen,
of Santa Rosa Drive, announce
the Bar Mitzvah of their son,
Irwin Barry, on May 1, at Yesh-

In honor- of Pan American
Day, the language clubs present-
ed a special assembly. Barry
Levine, acting as M.G., opened
the program and introduced a
group of singers from the Span-
ish Club. In this group were:
Barbara Sorscher, Ida Nader,
Erna Kammerman, and Phyllis
Ivory. Alan Rosenthal explained
what the Pan American Union
was. Thomas Thompson related
what the Union hopes to do. In-
cluded in the entertainment
were dances by Betty Weiser and
Joan Greene.
The Latin Club of Mumford
High invited our Latin Club to
celebrate Rome's birthday with
them. When the Central Club
arrived at Mumford, they were
entertained by a skit and a
"'What's My Line Panel." After
refreshments were served the
meeting ended with a tour of the
school. Centralites attending
the meeting were: Jerry Chap-
nick, Bev Simon, Ellen Aver-
buch, Bernice Lahr, Louie Her-
shamn, Mart Adelman, Alicia
Margolis, Joan Wood, Richard
Sternberg, Sharon Cohen, Har-
old Lipsitz, and Judy Alzofon.
The results of the election
of officers at the first meeting
of the newly formed Future
Teachers Club are: President,
Rae Jean Blatnikoff; Vice-
president, Winnie Ledger; Sec-
retary, Charlotte Erpelding;
Treasurer, Estelle Strayer.
Noel Lawson, Myron Homer,
Eugene Smoler, David Lipshutz,
Wayne Rivers, Harold Thomas,
Herbert Currie, and Nathan
Lessem were members of the
octet which sang at the opening
night performance of "Careers
Unlimited," held at Masonic
Temple.
The Girls' Chorus presented a
concert on the Musical Youth
Program on Station WXYZ. In-
cluded on the program were se-
lections by a violin quartet con-
sisting of Eva Partos, Donna
Goldenberg, Rosalyn Mayer, and
Clifford Tennenhouse, a solo by
Ida Nader, and a trumpet solo
by Maurice Cohen, accompanied
by Robert Shulman.

Southern Oakland County Ha-
dassah -women and their hus-
bands, producers of last year's ;
hit, Carmen Cohen, will present
Cap'n Sammy's Showboat in the
Mumford auditorium 8:30 p.m.1
Tuesday and Wednesday.
Captained by Dr. Edward E. I
. Levine (Schmoesky of Carmen
Cohen), the cast will include
Barbara Lencher, Selma Axel-
rod, Leaner Reizen, Julian Phil-
lips and Paul Silverman.
Directed by Mrs. Levine, and
assisted by Mrs. Harley Citrin,
second producer and Mrs. Har-
men Dix, musical director, re-
hearsals have been underway for
two months. Producer-writer
Ernest Jay has been training an
all-male group for a minstrel-
show feature.
The huge supporting cast will
offer the well-loved melodic
tunes of the adapted. Showboat
music—hoop-skirted women and
their 19th century nautically-
attired partners will present
spirited dance routines.

Midwest Zionists Discuss
World Zionist Problems

Regional leaders of the Zionist
Organization of America from
five mid-west states, including
Michigan, gathered at the Pal-
mer House in Chicago, to discuss
Zionist problems.
Jacques Torczyner and Dr.
Emanuel Neumann were the
speakers.
This meeting was primarily
called to brief the ZOA regional
and district officers in this area
on issues confronting the World's
Zionist Organization.
The Conference noted with
enthusiasm the gaining strength
of the general Zionist movement
in Israel.
