Dressed in holiday garb,
this Yemenite woman, form-
erly head of a prominent and
wealthy family in Aden, now
ekes out a bare living in Israel
as a laundress. When posing
for the plaintiff, Koslowsky
says, she maintained a mys-

oozed from her eyes.

truly ravishing and spirited
beauty, enlisted in the Ha-

Another Oriental b e a u t y
captured in modern garb by
Koslowsky, is this young
woman who was instrumental
in enabling the artist to paint
Yemenite types in Israel. She
set the example for other Ye-
menites to willingly pose for
the brush, breaking the re-
sistance of less willing types.

representing the influence on the Jewish state of its

This is perhaps one of Kos-
lowsky's most popular paint-
ings. The old man, a pa-
triarch from Kurdistan, was
one of the early settlers in
the new Israel. Complete with
staff in hand ,he represents
a figure that might well have
been snatched right out of
one of the pages of the Bible.
