of the Egyptians who made their
life bitter with hard labor.
Shank.
A roasted bone symbolizing
the Paschal lamb which was
eaten in the Temple period. A
roasted egg is placed with it to
commemorate the special sacri-
fice, the "Hagigah," offered in
addition to the Paschal lamb.
Haroseth.
A compound of nuts, apples
and cinnamon minced into a
paste with wine. It resembles
the color of clay and is symbolic
of the day of which the Hebrews
made the bricks while in Egypt.
The bitter herb is dipped in this
Haroseth.
Dessert Affikomen.
The half of the middle matzo,
which early in the evening is
laid aside under the pillow, is
