Israeli Pilot Dies in Crash
TEL AVIV, (JTA) — An Israeli
Air Force pilot was killed in
southern Israel when his plane
crashed while searching for a
British plane lost in the area.
Board of Commerce International
Tour of 45 Leaders Includes Israel
The fifth international trade
tour of the Detroit Board of
Commerce includes a four-day
stay in Israel, it was announced
this week.
The 45 participants in this
tour include Norman H. Birn-
krant, Maurice A. Enggass, Saul
LeVine and Nathan Silverman.
This annual tour will start on
April 28, with Rome as the first

Mr. Birnkrant, an attorney
importer and exporter, recently
was named honorary Consul for
Austria. He is chairman of the
international relations commit-
tee of the U.S. Junior Chamber
of Commerce which has named
him International Senator of
Goodwill, and is a founder and
life member of the Detroit Jun-
ior Board of Commerce. Recipi-
ent of the first diploma pre-
sented by the Temple Beth El
College of Jewish Studies and a
past president of the Young
People's Temple Club, he is ac-
tive in a score of civic move-
ments.
Mr. Enggass, a past president
of the Detroit Retail Merchants
Associations, is active in the
Better Business Bureau and in
the Allied Jewish Campaigns.
Saul LeVine is vice-president
of the Federal Engineering Co.
Mr. Silverman is a partner in
the firm of Holtzman & Silver-
man, and is active in Jewish
communal affairs.
Among those who will join
this tour are William Henry
Gallagher, noted attorney; P. J.
Kent, executive engineer of the
Chrysler Corp.; Ellis B. Merry,
vice-president of the National
Bank; Fred A. Compton, vice-
president of Detroit Edison Co.,
and many other industrial and
civic Detroit leaders.
Pioneer Women Slate
Child Rescue Ball
Mrs. Irving Posner, president
of the Detroit Council of Pioneer
Women, announces that a sec-
ond project dedicated to the in-
terests of World Jewish Child
Day is now nearing completion.
A Spring Ball, under the
chairmanship of Mrs. Sam
Isaacs, of Avodah Chapter, will
be held at 8:30 p.m., April 25, at
Adas Shalom Synagogue, from
which funds will go to the Child
Rescue Fund.
On April 4, which was official-
ly World Jewish Child Day, the
women conducted a cannister
drive, which netted several hun-
dred dollars, which will be set
aside for Youth Aliyah activities
of Pioneer Women.
Dov Bruckner Appointed
New Farband Organizer
Dov Bruckner, of Haifa, Is-
rael, has been appointed organ-
izer by the Farband Labor Zion-
ist Order for Detroit and near-
by area. He will work in Detroit
under the direction of the De-
troit City Committee.
Mr. Bruckner worked success-
fully with the Labor Zionist
Committee for Bonds, selling a
total of over $1,000,000 in cash.
The Farband, in Detroit, has
started a membership campaign
for 100 new members to be at-
tained by May 1. Plans for the
drive are well underway, and Mr.
Bruckner will direct the activity,
from the newly opened office at
11816 Dexter Blvd. In addition
to his work with new members,
Mr. Bruckner also will work with
branch secretaries to help con-
duct the inner organizational
activities.
