Third Seder on April 20 Will Close
30th Annual Histadrut Campaign

Last minute activity marks
the closing phase of the 30th an-
nual Detroit Histadrut cam-
paign. Groups which have ex-
ceeded their annual quota are
seeking to increase the amount
prior to the official April 20
closing, while those who have
not quite achieved their goal are
aiming to reach all prospects.
The Landsmanschaf ten Di-
vision under the chairmanship
of Louis Levine, Morris Malin
and Hyman Lipsitz are aiming
to make the Third Seder closing
a festive occasion.
M. Goldoftas, principal of the
United Jewish Folk Schools, ad-
dressed Odesser Progressive Aid
Society last Saturday evening on
the theme "Thirty Years of His-
tadrut." He paid tribute to the
Odesser society for their 20 years
Of devotion and effort on behalf
of that organization to Israel.
Conveners of this impressive
evening were Alter Wineman,
Max Rosenthal and Samuel Bel--
kin. Keshenever Bessarabier So-.
ciety and Congregation Beth
Tikvah also completed their por-
tion of the campaign last week.
Near completion, the program
being arranged for the Third
Seder closing April 20 will be
presented in the banquet hail of
the Adas Shalom Synagogue.

Jewish Minority Candidate Dropped by
Turkish Party; Only M.P. Dies in Crash

ISTANBUL (JTA) —The ruling
Democratic Party here made
public its list of candidates to
Parliament in the general elec-
tsions to be held May 2. The list
fails to include any Jewish can-
didate or representative of any
other minority group. Among
those dropped from the lists is
Salomon A d o t t o, sole Jewish
deputy, who has served two
consecutive terms. Only a few
days later, Mr. Adotto was killed
in a plane crash.
The Republic an People's
Party, main opposition group,
announced a Jewish candidate,
M. Moiz Tekinlap, a well-known
economist who has served pre-
viously in public offices.
There is a possibility that the
leaders of the Democratic Party
at Ankara may amend the local
list and possibly include a Jew-
ish candidate. It is believed here
that, unless the lists are chang-

ed, the Democratic Party may
lose many of the 300,000 votes
cast by the minority groups, as
well as some of its prestige
abroad.

Council Opposes
State House Bill

Acting upon a decision of the
community relations committee
of the Jewish Community Coun-
cil, Samuel J. Rhodes, chair-
man, submitted to Gov. Williams
the views formulated by the
committee with respect to House
Bill No. 315, which was recently
adopted by the State Legislature.
Within the scope of this legis-
lation, referendum votes would
be held in connection with the
development or operation of
some public housing projects.
Experience in other states where
similar legislation has been
adopted has demonstrated that
issues of racial tension and
prejudice in connection with the
housing frequently become para-
mount.
Rhodes' letter conveyed the
misgivings of the Council's
Committee about the possibility
of such situations arising in
Michigan. The Common Coun-
cil of the City of Detroit and
the Detroit Housing Commis-
sion have both gone on record
as being opposed also to this
legislation,.

campaign will be given during
Passover.
The congregations engaged in
this joint drive are Bnai David,
Mogen Abraham, Beth Abra-
ham, Young Israel and North-
west Israel.
