TEL AVIV — The remains of
the late Baron Edmond de
Rothschild "Hanadiv Haya-
duah," the well known bene-
f a c t o r -whose philanthropies
founded the Yishuv that is Is-
rael now—are at rest on Carmel

Shitritt, Minister of Police; Dr.
Benjamin Dinur, Minister of
Education. Former Prime Min-
ister David Ben-Gurion and his
wife had come up from their
Negev retreat at Sdeh Boker,
The Mayor of Haifa led the pro-
cession. Seventy-six year old
James Rothschild, son of the
Baron, with tears in his eyes and
in choked voice, recited t h e
Kaddish and the El Moleh
Rachamim was sung by a can-
tor and choir.
The funeral convoy started for
the burial place—now named
"Ramat Hanadiv." Along the
entire route streets and high-
ways were decorated with' the
national flag at halfmast. There
was weeping: as the corteges
passed the main streets of two
colonies — Zichron Y a a k o v,
named after the Baron's father,
and Benyamina, bearing the
Baron's own He b r e w given
name. There are veteran colo-
nists in those settlements who
had come in personal contact
with the Baron and benefitted
personally from his help.
Atop a platform near the
mausoleum, the coffins were
placed at the spot the Baron
had himself chosen for his final
resting place. Baron James
again recited the K a d d i s h
standing between the two cof-
fins while all present stood at
attention around him. Repre-
sentatives of 46 settlements es-
tablished on land acquired by
the late Baron filed into the
mausoleum. Each man placed a
small sack with soil from his
settlement as a bed for the cof-
fins. The biers were lowered. A
cantor and choir chanted El
Moleh. Hanadiv Hayaduah had
come home.

Next to his coffin lies the bier
of his wife, the Baroness Ade-
laide. The bodies had been dis-
interred, in accordance with his
will, from their graves in France
and brought here for their final
stay. Colorful solemn ceremon-
ies. lasting more than 24 hours
culminated T u e s d a y morning
when a unit of marines and a
group of police cadets took up
the two biers to place them
in the mausoleum built on the
site chosen by the Baron himself
--a site overlooking from a 300-
foot eminence many of the very
fields and colonies which the
Baron's benefactions had made
possible.
The ceremonies got under way
Monday morning when the gov-
ernment, frigate the Mivtach en-
tered Haifa ha bor. As heavy
showers beat on the waters.
every ship in the port lowered
its flag to halfmast. A 19-gun
salute was fired. The baron's
-own insignia that had flown
from the Mivtach mainmast was
lowefk,.d. The coffins were taken
by hearse to Haifa town hall.
Through the night, the bodies
lay in state. Fifty thousand men
and women passed by the cof-
fins atop a platform draped in
green and black as the choir of
the great synagogue chanted
Psalms. Tuesday 'morning,
members of the Rothschild fam-
ily who had come here from
Europe took their places at the Anti-Semites Fail to Defeat
bier. Cabinet members came — Jewish Candidate in Florida

Access to Wailing
Wall Is Demanded
By Orthodox Body

NEW YORK, (JTA) — A reso-
lution asking the United States
to seek through the United Na-
tions free access for religious
Jews to the Wailing Wall in the
Jordanian-held part of Jerusa-
lem, was adopted by the First
National Conference of Religious
Jews for Israel.
The conference, which was
addressed by Moshe Shapiro, Is-
rael Minister of Religious and
Social Welfare, urged the United
States to place before the Se:
curity Council a plea, for the
provision of arrangements to
present "Jewish worshippers the
same access to the Wailing Wall
in Old Jerusalem, now held
under the guns of the Arab
Legion, which the Israel Gov-
ernment freely p ermits the
Christians and Moslems in rela-
tion to their Holy Places in Is-
rael."
The delegates called upon the
United States to extend "new
and vigorous efforts" as leader
of the free world and in the
United Nations "to persuade the
Arab states to take the only step
which will assure the stable de-
velopment of the whole region—
sitting down to negotiate a dur-
able peace with Israel."
Mr. Shapiro emphasized in his
address that Big Power efforts
to "appease the Arabs in order
to win them for the west" con-
stituted "a dangerous error" of
global strategy.

Founder of "Peace With
Israel" Effort Loses Job

HAMBURG, (JTA) — Erich
Lueth, founder and head of the
German "Peace With Israel"
movement, was ousted from his
position as press chief of Ham-
burg. His identification with the
Social Democrats was given as
the reason for his removal by
the new Hamburg :administra-
tion which is made up of centrist
and right parties of the Aden-
a.ue r coalition.
In 1951, Lueth issued his im-
passioned appeal, "We Ask Israel
for Peace!" Shortly thereafter,
he launched the German "Olive
Tree Offering" on behalf of Is-
rael. The honesty and fervor of
his pleas led to the foundation
of the "Peace With Israel" move-
ment. It created the atmosphere
in which the negotiations be-
tween. Israel and Germany at
The Hague could be initiated and
which made possible the conclu-
sion of the reparations agree-
ment. Last year, Lueth visited
Israel and, upon his return, pub-
lished enthusiastic accounts of
his impressions.

LONDON, (WJA)—"The Arab
League has failed, since its in-
ception, to bring about real
unity, even in small matters,"
Baghdad radio contended in a
discussion with "a leading Brit-
ish newspaper."
The "existing Israeli danger,"
the broadcaster continued, had
also failed to unite Arab coun-
tries. "They have differences of
opinion even as regards their
policy on Arab refugess."
Unity has enabled the Jews to
make their dream come true, but
the Arabs, though "alive and
kicking," are wasting their vi-
tality.

Anti-Semites in Vienna Use
New Tactics to Smear Jews

VIENNA, (JTA)—A new form
of anti-Semitic provocation has
come to the attention of the
Austrian police, it was learned
here this week when the State
Prosecutor was given jurisdic-
tion of a case involving a ficti-
tious "want ad" intended to
present Jews in an unfavorable
light. ---
Under police questioning, Dr.
A. Vogler, a press officer for the
People's Party in Lower Austria,
admitted that lie placed an ad
which offered a "pleasant job"
with a "Jewish firm." The pleas-
ant job involved chauffering and
car maintenance of a "deluxe
American car" as well as office
boy and gardening work for the
same firm, with days off not
permitted on the week-end and
vacation offered only during the
winter months. Dr. Vogler as-
serted that he had placed the
advertisement in retaliation for
an "anti-Christian" ad which
appeared in the same Vienna
newspaper a"week earlier.
