Four Congregations Join in Sponsoring
Community Workshop for Passover

Four orthodox congregations
are joining their efforts to
sponsor two separate two-day
Passover workshops which will
be open to the entire com-
munity.
The workshops, to be held at
Cong. Bnai David, 14th and

NW Israel Women
To Honor Rabbi Goldman

The Sisterhood of Northwest
Israel Synagogue will honor the
congregation's spiritual leader,
Raxbbi Leo Y. Goldman, with a
kiddush in honor of his gradua-
tion from Wayne University, fol-
lowing Saturday morning serv-
ices, in the synagogue. Mrs. Gil-
bert Averbuch, chairman, is as-
sisted by Mrs. Marvin Revich,
co-chairman, in planning the
kiddush and Sisterhood Sab-
bath.
The Sisterhood is planning its
Passover workshop at 9 p.m.,
April 6, in the synagogue, at
which members and their friends
will learn how to decorate the
holiday table and how to pre-
pare food for the occasion. Rab-
bi Goldman will speak on the
holiday's signifance.

Adas Shalom School
To Offer Purim Program

Elmhurst, will be held on April
6 and '7 and again on April 13
and 14, under the auspices of
Congregations Bnai David, Beth
Abraham, Mogen Abraham and
Young Israel.
The program of the workshops
is as follows:
1. Text of the Haggadah, ex-
planation of the Passover seder
book and background on the
festival, taught at 8:30 p. m.,
April 6, by Rabbi M. J. Wohlge-
lernter.
2. Passover Laws—Part I, ana-
lysis and discussion of the ori-
gin and importance of the laws
of the festival, taught at 8:30
p. xn., April 7, by Rabbi Hayim
Donin.
3. Passover Laws—Part II, in-
terpretation of the laws as ap-
plied today and a seminar on
individual festival problem s,
taught at 8:30 p. m., April 13,
by Rabbi Samuel Prero.
4. How to Conduct a Seder,
technical knowledge required to
make the seder meaningful and
an explanation of seder rituals,
taught at 8:30 p. m., April 14,
by Rabbi Israel I. Halpern.
5. Seder Melodies, songs to
add special emphasis, meaning
and enjoyment to the seder,
taught at 8 p.•m., all four days,
by Cantor Hyman J. Adler.
6. Cooking and- Passover
Dishes; suggestions and demon-
strations of holiday recipes and
delicacies, taught at 1 p. m., ,
April 14, by Mrs. M. Weisenfeld.

ned so that the entire family

Between Two Faiths'

DR. JAMES W. PARKES, An-
glican priest and leading au-
thority on church-synagogue
relations, is on a nationwide lec-
ture tour, explaining Christian-
ity to Jews and Judaism to
Christians. Tour includes talks
at Christian divinity schools and
at Institutes on Judaism for
Christian clergy sponsored by
the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations. The scholar was
called the "bridge between two
faiths" by Dr. Maurice N. Eis-
endrath, president of the UAIIC,
for his efforts to make Jewish
ethics known to Christians.
Chairman of the commission
sponsoring Dr. Parkes' tour is
Abe M. Luntz, of Cleveland. In
response to an invitation by
Rabbi Leon Fram of Temple Is-
rael, Dr. Parkes will speak at a
luncheon for Christian ministers
at 12:15 p.m., Thursday, in the
temple. His subject will be "A
Church Historian Looks at Mod-
ern Israel." His appearance is.
sponsored through the coopera-
tion of the Detroit Council of
Churches.

A post-Purim performance of
the operetta, "Call Me Esther,"
will be presented by students
of the Ada,s Shalom Religious
School for parents and friends
at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, in the
synagogue social hall.

vising the production, while the

A delegation of officers, trus-
tees and members of Temple
Israel will be in Cincinnati on
Saturday to witness the confer-
ring of the honorary degree of
Doctor of Divinity upon Rabbi
Leon Fram.
The ceremony will be held at
the chapel of the Hebrew Union
College, Jewish Institute of Re-
ligion, oldest academy of Jewish
learning in America. The occa-
sion is the Founder's Day cele-
bration of the college, honoring
the memory of the founder of
Reform Judaism in America,
Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise.
