Lapin's Translation of
Shakespeare's Sonnets

B. Lapin, a lover of Yiddish
and a poet in his own rights,
loved Shakespeare. He trans-
lated the Shakespearean Sone';s
into Yiddish and they have just
been published, bilingually, the
English on the left and the Yid-
dish on the right, in a book
produced by Bloch Publishing
Co.
His son, S. Lapin, has written
the preface, paying honor to his
father for his devotion to liter-
ary efforts. He states that his
father "found in the Sonets a
challenge to his own lifelong
principle of poetic conciseness
and restraint."

'How Sick I Was ...'
Danny Kaye told us about the
Beverly Hills skinflint, desper-
ately ill, who startled the local
rabbi by wheezing, "Help me get
well, rabbi, and I'll give the new
synagogue fund $25,000.
He recovered, but refused to
receive the rabbi on numerous
occasions. The rabbi finally cor-
nered him at a banquet and
sternly reminded him: "You
promised the synagogue fund
$25,000 if you recovered your
health!"
"I did?" said the millionaire
skinflint in astonishment,
"That'll give - you a rough idea
of how sick I was!"
