Detroit area students at the University of Michigan who are
pledging. Tau Delta Phi fraternity include Myron Laban, son of
the Larry Labans, of Snowden Ave.; Milton Nathanson, son of the
Louis Nathansons, of Nadine Ave., Huntington Woods; Alan Lyness
son of the Irving Lyness', of Sorrento Ave.; Larry Rosen, son of
the Benjamin Rosens, of Cherrylawn Ave.; and Robert Wartell,
son of the Irving Wartells, of Sherwood Ave., Huntington Woods.
Mr. and Mrs. Morton Gandal of Cleveland visited here last
week-end with Mrs. Gandal's grandmother, Mrs. Rose Katz, and
her aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs. Sol Baron and Mr. and Mrs.
Edward Engel.
The Vladimiritzer Emergency Relief Organization on Tuesday
evening honored Mr. and Mrs. William Rossen with a farewell
party prior to their departure for a tour of Europe and Israel.
Mrs. Olga Rosner, of Wildemere Ave., has left for Israel where
she will spend the spring and summer visiting her parents in Tel
Aviv.
Mrs. Chava Lifshitz, of Tel Aviv, will return to Israel next
week aboard the S.S. Jerusalem after visiting here for several
months with her sister, Mrs. Jacob Ingber, of Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Genasha Zuprik, of Haifa, Israel, will return home aboard
the S.S. Jerusalem after visiting here with her brother, Mr. J. M.
Davidson, of 19340 Coyle, and her sister, Mrs. Edith Lazebnik, of
Jackson, Mich.
Mrs. Louis Tatken, president of the Michigan Region, Wom-
en's League, United Synagogues of America, has returned from
Chicago, Ill., where she attended a board meeting of the Central
Branch, Women's League.
Miss Sylvia J. Helfgott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred A.
Helfgott, of 24241 Moritz, Oak Park, Mich., will be home this week-
end for her spring vacation from the University of Connecticut.
Making the trip with Sylvia as her house guests are her class-
mates, Judith Shapiro, of Patterson, N.J., and Jerry Blume, of
Hartford, Conn. 'Sylvia and Judy are members of Alpha Epsilon
Phi sorority, while Jerry is affiliated with Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity.

George Gershwin's "Rhapsody
in Blue" for piano and orchestra
will be performed by Joann
Freeman, well-known young De-
troit pianist, and the Jewish
Community Center Symphony
Orchestra, under the direction
of Julius Chajes, at the second
"pop" concert at 2:30 p.m., Sun-
day, at the Davison Center.
Harvey Seigel, concertmaster
of the orchestra, will be heard
in Bruch's G Minor Violin Con-
certo. The program also will in-
clude Zinovi Bistritzky's Hebrew
Suite "Ivria" and Overture to
"Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart.

The engagement of Sarena

First Israel Vessel Docks
At Japan's Yokahoma Harbor

NEW YORK, (JTA)—The 10,-
000-ton Israeli freighter "Tel
Aviv" has dropped anchor in
Yokahoma harbor, thus becom- •
ing the first Israeli flag ship to
enter a Japanese port.
The freighter, which carried
coal and scrap for Japan, was
th.e first Israeli vessel to make
the long haul through the Pana-
ma Canal to Honolulu and
thence to Japan. From Japan,
the Tel Aviv will proceed to
Vancouver, British, Columbia, to
pick up a cargo of lumber for
Britain.
