A

Czarist Russian Successo-r Group
On the Rampage in West Germany

MUNICH, (JTA) — A rabidly
anti-Semitic successor move-
ment to the notorious "Black
Hundreds," the pogrom organ-
ization of Czarist Russia, is re-
ported in Russian emigre circles
in West Germany.
The movement, which con-
ducts its Jew-baiting in four
languages, is known by its Rus-
sian initials RONDD, and seeks
restoration of a centralized Rus-
sian Empire. To that end, it
formed a Council for the Re-
establishment of the Russian
State.
Both RONDD and the Council
are headed by Eugene Der-
shaven, former ballet impres-
sario from Eastern Poland who
volunteered to serve with the
Nazis. His real name is Arciuk.
In its four-language bulletin,
published monthly, RONDD fea-
tures vicious attacks on Jews,
freemasons and President Eisen-
hower. Its editor explains Com-
munism as an age-old Jewish
dream of world domination, and
goes on to explain that Corn-

munist leaders are staging sham
trials of Jewish defendants be-
cause "they must conceal the
identity of international Jewry
and Communism.
Dershaven argues that a sec-
tion of the Jewish people, the
"Satanists," knowingly and de-
liberately incited anti-Semitism
and the pogrom. He cites a quo-
tation from the Apocalypse
about the "synagogue of Satan,"
and calls on his followers to
wage "a merciless battle against
the dark international forces of
Satanism," predicting at the
same time that much Jewish
blood will yet be shed.
A Jewish woman, who felt li-
beled by the defamatory re-
marks, filed a criminal com-
plaint, which was subsequently
dismissed since German law
does not punish group libel.
In its English-language bul-
letin (the others are Russian,
German and French) , RONDD
marks the papers "five cents
per copy," possibly indicating
that they are meant for export
to the United States.

U.S. Jewish Population Over 5,000,000;
2,294,000 Reported in New York City

The estimated Jewish popu-
lation in the United States is
over 5,000,000 of whom some 2,-
294,000 live in New York City.
The information is based on
a special survey conducted for
the American Jewish Commit-
tee's 55th annual American Jew-
ish Yearbook, 1954.
Questionnaires were comple-
ted by more than 700 communi-
ties throughout the United
States where sizeable numbers
of Jews reside. The final result
was obtained from these ques-
tionnaires plus a projection for
the remaining communities.
Comparing the 1953 estimate
for New York with the 1950 es-
timate of 2,100,000, the AJC said
that the difference between the
two was probably a result of the

superior techniques used in the
current survey, rather than an
appreciable increase in the New
York Jewish population. The
Committee pointed out that the
same study- showed a consider-
able growth in Jewish popula-
tion in New York City's suburbs,
consistent with the general mid-
dle class trend of migration
from New York City proper.
Thirty-three (Alt of 34 New York
suburbs reported an increase of
Jewish population; almost all
the communities attributed the
increased to a recent influx
from New York City.
In view of this outward move-
ment, the AJC held, it was un-
likely that the population of
Jews within the city had in-
creased appreciably.

Beginning Veterinaries, Therapists and
Morticians. Have Job Advantages Here

WASHINGTON, D. C. — Com-
pared with the number of em-

cording to an occupation ref-

Eisenhower Receives
Tercentenary Leaders

WASHINGTON, (JTA) — A
delegation of leaders of the
committee to celebrate the
300th anniversary of Jewish
settlement in this country
was received by President
Eisenhower at the White
House.
The delegation, led by
Ralph E. Samuel, chairman
of the Tercentenary, invited
the President to the official
opening of the celebration.
Eisenhower explained, how-
ever, that it was too early at
this time for him to make a
definite commitment, al-
though he appreciated the in-
vitation.
The delegation presented
the President with a silver
medal, made 50 years ago on
the 250th anniversary of Jew-
ish settlement. In addition
to Samuel, the delegation in-
cluded Jacob Blaustein, Dr.
Samuel Belkin, Adolph Held,
Simon Sobeloff, Irving Kane,
Bernard Trager, Joseph Wil-
len, Prof. Horace Kallen and
Mrs. Irving Engel,

tional average is one in 5,000;
one mortician exists for every
5,000 inhabitants while the U. S.
ratio is one for each 3,700.
The survey goes on to show
that accounting and real estate
are two fields which are over-
represented, while in medicine,
dentistry, chiropractic, optome-
try ' and photograWay, Detroit
follows the national norm.
The director; indicates that
Detroit has the fifth highest
media family income in the
ration, meaning that half of
the family units average more
than $3,976 a year. Rated high-
er than Detroit in family in-
come were Washington, D. C.,
South Bend, Stanford-Norwalk,
Conn. and Chicago.
