Manischewitz Develops
`Flavor-Seal' Wrapper

For over three generations,
since the founding of the B.
Manischewitz Co. in 1888, the
firm has enjoyed a reputation
for leadership in pioneering new
methods, new equipment, new
standards of quality in the bak-
ing and packaging of Passover
matzos.
This Passover, another inno-
vation is the exclusive Manische-
witz "Flavor-seal" inner w r a p
that seals in peak freshness and
keeps matzos crisp and delicious
till you serve them.
In addition to the usual seal-
ed outer wrapping and sealed
inner cartons, the 5 lb. package
of Manischewitz Passover matzos
now have a third protective
wrap—the "Flavor-Seal" inner
wrap that divides the matzos in-
to separately sealed sections, al-
lowing the user to open one sec-
tion at a time, to assure peak
freshness.

Reporting on the activities of
the Jewish Vocational Service
in 1953, Erwin S. Simon, presi-
dent of the agency, stated that
more than 1,400 persons were
served that year and of this
number 250 were refugees.
JVS, a member agency of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, en-
gages in a' program of aiding
vocational adjustment of mem-
bers of the Jewish community,
and is a non-fee charging agen-
cy, supported by the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign.
The agency made almost 500
direct job placements in 1953
and helped many find suitable
jobs.
In giving special attention to
refugees and persons hand i-
capped by age and other limita-
tions, JVS made about 125 place-
ments of refugees and 140 in
the latter category.
The agency's program for the
placement of older persons,
which has won national recogni-
tion, showed a 33% rise over last'
year in direct placements and
nearly three-quarters of these
were of persons 60 years of
age and older. The program,
under the joint sponsorship of
JVS and the National Council
of Jewish Women, is guided by
a committee headed by Robert
N. Janeway for JVS and Mrs.
Victor Shiffman for NCJW. The
program was assisted by em-
ployer contacts made by a vol-
unteer committee of the wom-
en's organization he a de d by
Mrs. Robert N. Janeway, Mrs.
Samuel H. Ruskin and Mrs.
Shiffman, and by the JVS em-
ployment committee of which
Leon G. Winkelman is chairman.
The agency cooperated in de-
veloping the Community Work-
shop, set up under temporary
auspices of the Federation in
1952. A committee headed by
- Greenberg and David
Samuel
M. Welling recently studied this
program, and recommendations
for its future operations will be
acted upon shortly.
The president said that the
JVS cooperated with Sinai. Hos-
pital from the beginning of the
medical institution's operation,
