Jewish organizations in 32
countries throughout the world
have filed requests with the
Conference on Jewish Material
Claims Against Germany for
funds to carry out relief and
rehabilitation work among Jew-
ish victims of Nazi persecution.
The conference, which was a
co-claimant with Israel in the
$822,000,000 reparations agree-
ment negotiated with the Bonn
governxnent last year, reported i

that the requests for the first
year's installment of relief funds
are in excess of $54,000,000.
This is more than six times
greater than the $8 to $9,000,000
which is expected to be avail-
able for distribution this year
for the relief, rehabilitation and
resettlement of Nazi victims
outside Israel.

Two important events are
scheduled for the dentists' sec-
services as the rest of the popu- tion of the professional division

UNITED NATIONS, N. Y.--
Jewish welfare activities in
Israel were praised in a report
issued by the UN and prepared
by a survey mission on com-
munity organization and de-
velop ► ent which visited Israel
in 1953 at the request of the
Technical Assistance Adminis-
tration.
"In the evolution of commu-
nity vcrelfare organization, Israel
stands in a category of its own,"
the report says, pointing out the
general economic social policies
of the state of Israel "based on
age-old principles of Jewish
communal law and a custom
originally set forth in detail in
the Talmud.;
"The mission, when visiting
Israel, had the impression of
having come into a country
where communal feeling, clean-
liness, care of poor and sick, at-
tention to public health, are
natural and based on western
standards. This is easy to un-
derstand, as half the JewiSh in-
habitants were, before they
chose Israel as their new home,
accustomed to the western _way
of life. Half a million immi-
grants, of the last few • years in-
cluded many from Oriental
countries whose standards of liv-
ing were much lower. The state
considered its task to be the
education of these newcomers as
quickly as possible, in such way
that they conformed with Is-
raeli standards," the report says.
"From the visits of the mis-
sion to village settlements and
towns, from talks with respon-
sible authorities, it became clear
that this heavy task of the state
is being performed in a resolute
successful way, because many
prominent citizens, urban and
rural, are doing their best to
educate the new inhabitants to
look after their interests and
incorporate them in the social
structure of the country."
The mission stressed the fact
it was informed that the Arabs
in Israel enjoy the same public

MARCH is still FISHMAN MONTH in Detroit

It was way back in March I912--42 years ago--that Morris Fishman, my father, first entered the life
insurance business. During all those years he formed literally thousands of warm friendships through the
rendering of the insurance service in which he believed so firmly,.

Many a boy and girl owe their college education to his persistence and salesmanship; many a widow
owes him thanks for a mortgage-free home and a lifetime income; many an old man's retirement has
been made possible because of his tirelessness.

So, although my father has gone, March is still FISHMAN MONTH EN DETROIT. And it will continue to
be as long as I am able to carry on his great work.

My associates and I are very proud of the recent records of our accomplishments. In January and
February of This year, the HERMAN FISHMAN AGENCY has accepted more than ONE MILLION
DOLLARS worth of new business in insured savings alone. We trust the months and years ahead will
see many more people avail themselves of the wonderful opportunity to save and have, to be sure and
not sorry.

We thank you for the privilege of serving you the pail' and we look forward to serving you in the future.

Very Sincerely YoUrs,

HERMAN FISHMAN
