Will Mark Celebration of Purim

In preparation for the holiday
of Purim, several organizations
'•in the community, principally
the religious schools, are plan-
ning observances for the holi-
day. Setting plans this week
were Temple Israel Young Mar-
rieds and the religious schools
of Temple Beth El and Adas
Shalom Synagogue.
A holiday workshop, the sec-
ond attempted by the Temple
Israel Young Marrieds Group,
will be held at 8:30 p.m., Tues-
day, in the youth forum of the
Temple. •
Under the overall direction of
Harold Karbel, chairman, the
group will divide into. three sec-
tions to learn how to make ori-

special foods for the holiday
and how to decorate the home.
All members of the Young
Marrieds, parents of children in
the religious school and the
community at large is invited.
A social hour will follow in-
struction.
Purim will be celebrated by
Temple Beth El Religious
School students with special
plays and masquerade parties.
The primary grades will cele-
brate this Sunday, with the
confirmation, intermediate and
high school observances on
March 14.
The intermediate dramatic
group win present "Story Book
Purim" at its party, which will
feature a Purim parade. On
March 13, the confirmation de-
partment will offer "S wing
High, Swing Low, Sing Purim,
Let's Go," directed by Miss Lois
Gordon.
The intermediate choir will
present a program of Purim
songs for the primary and inter-
mediate departments, and the
confirmation choir will perform
on Marcp 13 for the school and
on Mardh 19 for the family
Purim service. Both choirs are
directed by Mr. and Mrs. Jason
H. Tickton.
The Adas Shalom Religious
School will hold an assembly
on March 14, celebrating the
holiday. Featured will be the
Purimspiel "Call Me Esther."
All students will participate
in a masquerade and com-
munity singing.
Refreshments will be served
by the Sisterhood to complete
the program. The production of
the play is under the direction
of Maxwell L. Nadis, of the
school's children's theater. His
assistant is Rhoda Bigelman.

Orecklin will lead the 13 sections
comprising the prOfessional di-
vision of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, Irving W. Blumberg and
Harvey H. Goldman, . chairmen
of the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion's drive, announced.
The newly named chairmen
announced the appointment of
four vice-chairmen, Mrs. George
Blumenstock, Dr. Frank A. Reis-
man, Arthur S. Purdy and Dr.
H. Saul Sugar.
The physicians section of this
division will spark its phase
of the drive with the annual
social, 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the
home of Dr. and Mrs. Hyman S.
Mellen, 11575 Stratford. Serving
as hosts are Dr. Paul L. Fraiberg
and Dr. Mellen.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman, chair-
man of the religious section of
the campaign, will be guest
speaker.

Women's League Event Highlights Leadership

The first program of a series
on leadership direction will be
presented by the League orJew-
ish Women's Organizations on
Wednesday, at the Davison Jew-
ish Center.
The duties of outgoing presi-
dents, nominating committees
and other pertinent offices will
be discussed. Highlight of the
event will be a talk at the noon
luncheon session by Prof. A.
Dunham, of the University of
Michigan school of social work
on "Effective Leadership."
Two panels of lay leaders and
professional Women will direct
discussion along similar lines,
one aimed at leadership on the
national level, the other on local
organizations.
Participants in the first panel
are Mrs. Josephine Weiner, past
president of Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration of Women's Division,
moderator; Miss A. Rudson, of
the Main Library; Miss Dorothy
Rohr, Jewish Center; Mrs. Rob-
ert Coggan, president of Temple
Israel Sisterhood.
The local panel is composed

of Mesdames Joshua Sperka,,,
moderator; Matilda Rubin, Jew-
ish Center; M. Klein. past
League president; Pauline JaCk-
son, former Women's Division
president; and Norman Naimark,
Labor Zionist leader. •
The meeting will begin fat
10 a.m., and luncheon reserva-
tions may be made with Mrs.
Norman Kanter or Mrs. S. Spey-
akow: Members of all constituent
League organizations are invited
to attend.

honorary citizen of Jerusalem.
