Stollman and Berry Head Up Celebration;

Governor to Serve as Honorary Chairman

In what has been called the celebration "of a spiritual milestone," the 3000th
anniversary of the founding of Jerusalem as the first capital of Israel will be commemo-
rated in Detroit by the entire Jewish community Sunday evening, February 14, at Masonic
Auditorium, under the auspices of the Detroit Committee for State of. Israel Bonds.
Heading up the city-wide spectacle are Phillip Stollman, Celebration Committee
Chairman, and Louis Berry, who will serve as Chairman of the Evening. David Safran,
Steering Committee Chairman for Israel Bonds, and Mrs. Theodore Bardgman, Women's
Division Chairman in the Independence Bond Drive, will also handle leadership activities
in the Celebration planning.

The Detroit organization or
congregation selling the largest
number of Bonds for the Jeru-
salem Celebration will be per-
mitted to appoint one of its
members as "Honorary Citizen
of Jerusalem," it was announc-
ed by Philip Stollman, Celebra-
tion Committee Chairman. In
addition, the names of all those
who sell Israel Independence
Bonds in behalf of the Anniver-
sary Program will be inscribed
upon an • easel to be displayed
in the foyer at Masonic Temple
on the evening of February 14.
To commemorate the historic
spectacle, the names of all
those who purchase or sell
Bonds in tribute to the 3,000th
Anniversary of Jerusalem will be
forever enshrined in a perman-
ent record which will be pre-
sented to The Honorable Michael
Simon, Chief of Protocol for the
State of Israel, during the Cele-
bration, to become a part of the
Archives of the State of Israel.
A copy of this record will be
mailed to every Jewish family
in Detroit.

B'nai B'rith Men Set Pace
At the forefront of organiza-
tional activity in behalf of the
Jerusalem Celebration, 15 lodge
representatives of B'nai B'rith
Men recently secured 1,000 tick-
ets for distribution to their
members, during a meeting at
the home of Samuel Gottlieb,
Council Aide to Israel Chairman.

their participation in the 3,000th

point in B'nai B'rith Men's Is-

Michigan's Governor G. Men-
nen Williams said, in a special
message, "It will be an honor
and a pleasure to serve as Hon-
orary Chairman of this signifi-
cant occasio•." Joining with him
at the head of an Honorary-c-:—/,
Committee of 200 prominent citi-
zens in the State, will be De-
troit's Mayor Albert E. Cobo and
Senator Homer E. Ferguson.

As a special feature of the pro-
gram, Jan Peerce will sing
"Adarim," composed by Julius
Chajes, talented Detroit musical
leader.
The entire Detroit Rabbinate
has enlisted the cooperation of
their orthodox, conservative and
reform. congregations. Heads of
the group are Rabbi Isaac Stoll-
man, Rabbi Jacob E. Segal and
Rabbi Leon Fram.

In a recent organizational
conference, 150 persons repre-
senting as many groups, pledg-
ed their full-strength support.
Predicting 5,000 at the Celebra-
tion, Chairman Stollman an-
nounced that admission is by
purchase of a $50 Israel Bond,
with no Bond sales at the Cele-
bration, which launches the
final phase of the Independent
Bond Issue.
At the meeting, Mrs. Philip
Cutler was awarded a silver-blue
mink stole by Victor Frimet of
Victor Furs for securing $21,500
in Bond func4 in a special 30-
day drive.
