LISTENING

EACH- YEAR in the 18 years
Eleanor Riseman has been di-
recting the Infant Service Group
revue, one of the main goals by
the various casts has been to
outshine the previous year's
show, and also come up with an
unbeatable performance .... The
gals feel more certain than ever
that this time they have it, for
sure . . . From what we've seen,
their "Burn't Sugar" revue, to
be given at the Infant Service
Group's Annual Dinner:Dance
and Show . . . Jan. 31 . . . at
Masonic Temple, is just about
the closest any group can get to
putting on a Broadway musical
. which it will probably have
t4::; be next year, to outdo this

AS A REWARD for bravely un-
dergoing an operation, five-year-
old S h i r le e Ann Glist was
promised by her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jerome Guist, the finest
kitten to be had ... Coming out
from the influence of the anes-
thetic, the child muttered, "It's
a bum way to get a cat!"

LOU SCHWARTZ, of Quality
Floor Covering, relates the story
told him by a friend in the same
business about a rather funny
young woman who had spent
nearly two hours inspecting the
stock of linoleums in the friend's
store . . . Roll after roll was
brought out by the perspiring
salesman, but still she seemed
dissatisfied . . . The salesman
judged from the woman's dress
that she was a person of wealth,
and, therefore, likely to give a
fine order . . When finally he
had shown her the last roll he
paused in despair . . . "I'm ex-
tremely sorry, madam," he said
apologetically, "but if you could
wait I could get some more
pieces from the factory. Can we
call when they come in?" . . .
Whereupon the young woman
gathered her belongings togeth-
er and rose from the chair . .
"Yes, do," she said, with 'a gra=
cious smile, "but ask them to
send something with very small
designs, suitable for putting in
the bottom of a canary cage."

A LADY WALKED into the Hi-
Neighborood Market on Second,
where bossman Oscar Rappoport
happened to be standing behind
the meat counter, and said, "I'd
like to have you cut me, please,
six and seven-eighths pounds of
flank." . • . It was an unusual
request, but the butcher working
there thought maybe his cus-
tomer had a special recipe . . .
Once, twice, three times, he was
a bit short of the mark . .
Finally, he got a piece of meat
that was exactly the right
weight . . "Well, madam," he
said, sighing with relief as he
started to tear off a piece of
wrapping ,p a p e r, "there you
are." . . . "Who wants it?" an-
swered the customer. "I'm diet-
ing and that's how much I lost.
I want to see how it looks in one
lump!"
