Rabbi Frani Urges Support
For Stephen Wise Dinner-Dance
Calling for community-wide
support of the Stephen S. Wise
dinner-dance, being sponsored
by the Women's Division of the
American Jewish Congress, to be
held in commemoration of the
late Dr. Wise's birthday, at the
Latin Quarter, Sunday evening,
March 14, Rabbi Leon Fram,
president of the Michigan Coun-
cil of American Jewish Congress,
issued the following appeal:
"Stephen S. Wise was primar-
ily a champion of social right-
eousness. Crowds came to hear
him speak on controversial issues
both from the pulpit of the Free
Synagogue, at Carnegie Hall, - and
from the lecture platform. To him
democracy meant not only a
society in which all men were
free, but a society in which
freedom also
meant the op-
portunity to live
a complete life
and the oppor-
tunity to enjoy
a decent stand-
ard of life in-
cluding educa-
I;ion and culture.
"His bold ad-
vocacy of right-
Rabbi Fram eous causes re-
gardless - of their popularity im-
pelled him to become the leader
of the Zionist movement in
America at a time when Zionism
was extremely unpopular in the
field of Reform Judaism and
had not yet found wide accept-
ance among Orthodox Jews.
"The State of Israel which, like
Moses, he never lived to enter, in
a large degree owes its existance
to the leadership of Dr. Wise.
"It was Rabbi Wise who first
advocated the idea of Jews
laboring to protect other minor-
ities. It was he who first stated
that the future status of the
Jews in America depended on all
the people of America being
equally the beneficiaries of de-
mocracy."
Numerous entertainment fea-
tures have been planned for the
event, including music by the
Fenby-Carr Orchestra, a 16 girl
chorus line, the Phyllis Seymour
Rhythmettes and several night
club acts.

MI ZRACH I CONSTRUCTING
NEW UNIVERSITY IN ISRAEL
The young Medinat Yisrael has long
been seeking to install modern means
in its academic educational system in
particular. Such a system would insure
the speedy integration of these students
into the life of the country, without its
having to send them all over the world
for their education.
In Israel:
Such an Educational Center is the
BAR-ILAN UNIVERSITY, which the
Mizrachi Organization of America has
undertaken to establish in Israel. This
University will be the first patterned
after American Colleges with a curricu-
lum closely following that set in Amer-
ican Institutions of higher learning, yet
imbued with a spirit of strict loyalty to
the ancient traditions of our People.

588 Schools ranging from Kindergarten through Teacher's
Seminary, and Trade Schools.
