The semi-annual conference of the Fifth Region, Jewish War Veterans will begin today and continue through Sunday, it was stated by Department of Michi- gan JWV officials. The region is comprised of 17 Midwestern states. Sessions will be chaired by Sam Shaikewitz, of St. Louis, Mo., and Carol Landy, of Chi- cago, Ill., and will open with a reception this evening. All-day sessions are scheduled for Saturday, with topics under discussion including Fair Em- ployment Practices, McCarran- Walter Immigration Law and the hospitalized veteran. Speakers for the panels in- clude Boris M. Joffe, executive director of the Detroit Jewish Community Council; Walter Klein, also of the Council, and Dr. Paul Guten, national hos- pital officer. A banquet for delegates is scheduled at the Sheraton Cadil- lac Hotel on Saturday evening, while Sunday's sessions will start with a brunch at the JWV Me- morial Home. Hall, author of the book "The Hate Campaign Against the UN," will speak on that subject in the first of a series of open forums to be off- ered by the Jewish Community Center's Adult Institute, it was stated by Dr. Harry Lerner, adult supervisor. Hall, who will extend his talk to "The Hate Campaign Against the UN and Our Schools," will be heard at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at the Wood- ard Center. The book, which won high praise from Mrs. Eleanor Roose- velt and other dignitaries, ex- poses the mounting cam- paign of hate, - suspicion a n d Hall fear being organized in America against minority races, the UN, the schools, religious organiza- tions and even the Constitution. During the six years of re- search before writing his book, Hall lived and worked for six months with Gerald L. K. Smith at his St. Louis headquarters. A native of Boston, Mass., and a veteran of 31 months in the Pacific Theater of operations -during World War II, Hall has been widely heard before various clubs, lodges and university groups throughout the nation.
