Weizmann Society
To Plant Grove
In Israel Forest
Appropriately enough, the first
organization in Detroit to plant
a grove of trees in the Chaim
Weizinann Memorial Forest in
Israel is the Chaim Weizmann
Society, it was announced this
week by the Jewish National
Fund Council.
At a special Hanukah program
held earlier this month, the Soc-
iety not only decided to plant
1,000 trees in the memorial for-
est, but individuals subscribed
for 203 more trees.
The Weizmann Forest has been
undertaken nationally by the
JNF to fulfill the desire of
American Jewry to perpetuate
the memory of Israel's late first
president. When complete d,
there will be 100,000,000 trees
planted in the forest.
The Weizmann Society in De-
troit, which was formed by a
merger of the Chordorkover
Chabna Progressive Society and
the Radomer Friendly Society,
will celebrate its first anniver-
sary on Dec. 28, at Shaarey Zion
Synagogue.
A special ceremony planned
for the evening will include the
signing of the contract with
JNF for the purchase of the
grove in Israel. The film, "Jour-
n6y to Israel" also will be shown.
Officers of the Chaim Weiz-
mann Society are Louis Rosen-
berg, president; Mrs.•Jack Sher-
man, vice-president; Louis H.
