Quarter.
Prior to his cantorship at
Temple Emanu-El in Brooklyn,
N.Y., Cantor Kusevitsky served
the Hendon Synagogue, one. of
London, England's leading con-
gregations, for 12 years.
As a youth, he participated in
the Vilna Choir School, and later
in the G r eat Synagogue at
Vilna. When he was only 18,
following graduation from the
Vilna Academy of Musit, Cantor
Kusevitsky became choir leader
of the Lemberg Synagogue.
After studying voice projec-
tion in Warsaw, he joined the
cantorial ranks and scored an
immediate success. Before leav-
ing for London he served as
chief cantor of Rovno.
Rabbi Rackman, a well-known
orator from New York, will ad-
dress the Mizrachi banquet, ac-
cording to Irving W. Schlussel,
banquet chairman.

chairman for Brotherhood Week
in Michigan, has announced the

co-chairmen of the Brotherhood

Frehse, executive director, has
announced that the week of Feb.
21 to 28 has been designated for
the nation-wide observance.
Goldman is a member of the
board of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, president of the
Jewish Community Center, and
co-chairman of the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign. He is a member
of the executive committee of
the Jewish Welfare Federation,
prominent in the machinery
trade, having served as presi-
dent of both the Michigan As-
sociation of Machinery Dealers
and the Machinery Dealers Na-
tional Association and is a mem-
ber of the Government Machine
Tool Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Silverman to Speak
At JNF Event on Jan. 27
The Ladies' Auxiliary of the
Jewish National Fund announces
that Mrs. Archibald Silverman,
• noted traveler, lecturer and
leader in many national Jewish
movements, will be the guest
speaker at the annual fund-
raising event of the organiza-
tion, to be held Wednesday, Jan.
27, 1 p.m., at the Adas Shalom.
Guest artist at that event will
be Miss Sulie Harand, who has
been acclaimed • as the "One
Woman Musical Comedy."
A JNF Auxiliary board meet-
ing will be held at the home of

Urge Vacationing Detroiters
To Join Miami Social Club
All Detroiters intending to visit
or spend the winter months in
Miami Beach, Fla. are urged to
attend a meeting of the Detroit
Social Club of Greater Miami,
which will be held at 8 p.m.,
Saturday, in the International
Hotel, 14300 Collins. Nominations
for all offices will take place at
the session.
Federation Pre-Campaign Budgeting
Conference to Prepare for '54 Drive
Representatives of all phases
of community service will con-
I vene for the fifth annual pre-
campaign budget conference of
the Jewish Welfare Federation,
in preparation for the 1954 Al-
lied Jewish Campaign, at 10:30
a.m., Sunday, Jan. 24, at the
Davison Jewish Center.
Allocations will be made for
the following categories: over-
seas and Israel, local (operating
funds), local (capital funds) and
national agencies. The formula
will then be submitted to the
board of governors of Federa-
tion for approval.
Recommendations for specific
allotments to agencies will be

made by the budget and plan-
ning divisions of Federation
later in the year. More than 50
health, welfare and educational
agencies are included in the
Allied Jewish Campaign.
Those attending will include
members of the Federation
board of governors, Detroit
Service Group board of directors,
Women's Division board, Junior
Division board, Federation bud-
get and planning divisions and
the , boards of affiliated local
agencies.
