Mumford
High

Central
High

Mumford halls this week are
teeming with students wearing
everything from old "Ike" but-
tons, covered with their candi-
date's name, of course, to girls
with long bows hanging from
their hair. The reason?—the stu-
dent council election on Mon-
day! They had an additional
chance to campaign at the ral-
lies last • Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday.
The council will be selling
car plates that fit on top of
your license saying "Mumford
High School" some time in the
near future. The money that
they collect will help pay for
our much needed band uni-
forms. Several clubs have al-
ready had fund raising proj-
ects for this, and more clubs
will do so in the future. If you
see or hear of these, please try
to support them.
The Drama Club entertained
the Parent's Club last Tuesday
by presenting three excellent
skits. A Hollywood talent scount
should have been in the audi-
ence as their performance was
almost professional. The Mer-
cury will soon come out with a
Christmas edition which should
be terrific!
The Capri staff finally finished
taking pictures and the best
ones will go in the yearbook
that comes out in June. We are
all looking forward to seeing it.
A Christmas concert was given
at the Mayflower Church by the
orchestra and singing groups on
Wednesday night. The perform-
ance was excellent and was en-
joyed by everyone who attended.

day, in the Grand Ballroom of

Good news for everyone who
is trying to win a scholarship to
Wayne University! The alumni
classes of 1944, January and
June classes, held a square
dance at Carpenters Hall last
month and are presenting Miss
Robinson, C e ntral's principal,
with a check of $250, to be used
for two scholarships to Wayne.
One is to be awarded to a Jan-
uary graduate and one to a June
graduate.
Those serving on the 1944 class
committee were: Sol Iwrey,
Phyllis Rosenberg, Paul, Judith
and Jerry Sillman, Edith Fein-
berg Resnick, Connie Levine Ad-
ler, Arlene Karbal Mehler, Lil-
lian Taylor Cohen, Levona Levy
Steingold, Lee Wenokur, Leonore
Leff Braude and Shirley Rappa-
port.
The graduating classes of 1954
would like to take this oppor-
tunity to thank you!
The swimming classes were
visited last month by a well-
known sports figure. In fact,
most of the swimmers still don't
know who their instructor was
that day. Well, he was Don
Lund, .Tiger outfielder. Don
works as a substitute gym
teacher during the winter
months.
Birger Bakke, sponsor of the
Central Student and Centralite,
spoke at the eighth annual high
school press conference at
Wayne University. Editors of
the newspapers and yearbooks
from many high schbols in the
area attended. Central student
editors there were Elaine Ma-
dorsky, Gail Smolinsky, Larry
Poder, Bob Brent and Carolyn
Scott while Faith Greenbaum,
editor-in-chief, represented the.
Centralite.
Central is proud to announce
the inauguration of its first cit-
izenship recognition plan. Stu-
dent winners will receive citi-
zenship honors at a convocation
program on January 20. Parents
will be invited.
Those planning to qualify for
these awards must fill out cards
and return them to the Student
Council office not later than
today.
