Trygve Lie Criticizes
UN's Censure of Israel

WASHI N GTON, (JTA)—
Trygve Lie, former Secretary
General of the United Nations,
said the Security Council "acted
in a bit of a hurry" in passing
its resolution censuring Israel
for the retaliatory raid on
Kibya. He told .a testimonial
dinner in honor of A. S. Kay,
a veteran Zionist, that the UN
S e c u r i t y Council's resolution
censuring Israel was not well
balanced with former UN reso-
lutions. He said, "I cannot help
notice an omission in the Kibya
resolution — that of an appeal
' for peace, which has character-
ized some previous UN resolu-
tions. The Kibya resolution
merely censures and condemns,
it does not urge the Arbs and
Jews to seek out methods of

The Brodys have shown a deep
_interest in the. Technion for
many years. In 1946, they con-
tributed $10,000 to the Tech-
nion's Kisch Laboratories.
Monday's dinner was high-
lighted by addresses by Dr. and
Mrs. Walter Clay Lowdermilk.

Dr. Lowdermilk outlined the
needs for technical develop-
ment of Israel. "Were it not
for the Technion," he de-
clared, "there would have been
virtually no agricultural and
industrial progress in the
land."

The noted soil expert, who,
with Mrs. Lowdermilk, just re-
turned from a two-and-a-half
year stay in Israel where they
will resume residence in Sep-
tember to enable Dr. Lowder-
milk to teach in the Technion
next year, pointed out that "of
the relatively few engineers in
Israel more than half are Tech-
nion graduates." In his appeal
for support for the Technion, he
emphasized that steps must be
taken to enlarge this engineer-
ing school in order that more
engineers, who are vitally need-
ed in the land, may be trained
for service in the young state.

Mrs. Lowdermilk described
the sacrificing spirit of the
people in - Israel. She described
the state's marvelous achieve-
ments, including the revival of
-Hebrew, in regard to which,
she said: "It is the stay of
the Tower of Babel and con-
fusion of tongues in reverse,
for those who have come to
Israel have returned to one
language — the Hebrew of the
Bible."

Emphasizing her interest in
Israel as a Christian, she added
that events taking place there
are the results of "one of the
greatest movements of history,
of destiny and prophesy."
