One of -the most talked about
events at Berkley High is the
Sadie Hawkins Day dance,..to be
held tonight. Following true tra-
dition, the girls invite and es-
eort the boys to and from the
dance. Afterwards the girls take
their • dates out for a snack.
Needless to say, the boys are
enthusiastic- about the idea, and
the girls are making every effort
to keep expenses at a minimum.
The Berkley High basketball
team is already practicing for
its first game in December. The
football schedule ended last Fri-,
day, with Royal Oak High corn-
pleting a most_successful season
by overwhelming Highland Park,
67-0. Sue Fishman was the top
swimmer in the R. 0. swimming
meet last week.
On_Dec. 3, the Juniors of Roy-
al Oak High will perform in the
play, "Our Miss Brooks." Sarah
Weiner is directing the produc-
tion.
The confirmation class of Su--
burban Temple is sponsoring a
square dance on Dec. 5, in the
R. 0. High gym. There will be a
five piece band and admission
includes refreshments. T h e
dance is open to the public.

Thanksgiving atmosphere is
spreading through school, for in
the second floor showcase there
is a big display called, "Thanks-
giving Latin Style," consisting of
the turkey with all the trim-
mings and the Latin names.
Helen Freedman, Carol Rosen-

Simon, Elaine Pliskow and Pau-
line Kravitz arranged the show-
case with the help of Mrs. Bush,
Latin teacher.
The Spanish Club held an
open meeting with Anna Band,
ler, sister of the club's president,
Barb Bandler, as guest. Anna
spoke in Spanish, sang, a n d
played the guitar. She plans to
be an interpreter and can speak
filie languages fluently.
Twenty-two journalism stu-
dents received their honorary
Quill and Scroll cards and pins
at an informal ceremony. They

An Armistice Day program was
held over the P.A. on Nov. 11.
Miss Robinson spoke, Barry Le-
vine was master-of-ceremonies
and Judy Alzofon presented a
speech, "Lest We Forget."
In accordance with a rolick-
ing Roman initiation the Latin
Club welcomed in six new mem-
bers : Julian Kutinsky, Bernard
Mindell, Gary Peck, Sally Schul-
man, Daniel Topper and Marilyn
Weinberg.
A 12-B party was held at the
home of Annette Gladstone.

On Nov. 15, the seventh an-
nual Voice of Democracy con-
test, sponsored by the- Detroit
Junior Board of Commerce, was
held. Grades 10 to 12 in all De-
troit schools were elgible to talk
on the subject "I Speak for De-
mocracy."
Mumford's winner was David
Price, who will deliver his speech
again over radio station WJR
this Saturday. The winner here
will enter the state contest; and
then on to the national contest
in Washington, D.C.
- The Junior-Senior football
game took place last Thursday,
with the juniors emerging tri-
umphant.
Temple Israel's confirmation
Class held its first party last.
Saturday. A combined weinie
roast and social gathering, it
was held in the home of Lynn

Dr. Walter C. LoWderthilk,
noted soil conservationist and
author of the Jordan River de-
velopment plan, which is a ma=
jor bone of contention in the
current disputes between Israel
and the Arab nations; is sched-
uled to arrive iri New York Sun-
day; it was announced by- J. W.
Wunsch, president, American
Technion Society.
Technion will honor Dr. and
Mrs. Lowdermilk with a dinner
at 'the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel
Tuesday evening.
On Dec. 7, Dr. Lowdermilk will
be the guest of honor at' the
annual dinner of the Detroit
Technion- Society. Leon Kay and
Benjamin Wilk are co chairmen
of the - Detroit affair.: •
