Bnai David Groups to Stage Benefit Concert
To Provide Synagogue with Prayer Shawls

Sale of tickets to date suggests
a capacity crowd for a benefit
program to be presented through
the combined efforts of three af-
filiate choral groups of Cong.
. Bnai David at 8 p. m., Wednes-
day, in the synagogue's main .
auditorium.

Cantors' Group

At the recent installation
banquet of the Jewish Cantors
Ministers Association, Cantor
Jac ob Sonenklar, of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, was inducted as
president. Assisting him during
the forthcoming year will be the
following:
Cantors David Katzman, vice-
president; Hyman Adler, execu-
tive vice-president; Jacob Skol-
nick, treasurer; Mendel Stawis,
secretary; Hyman Shulsinger,
musical chairman; Judah Gold-
ring, board chairman; Rubin
Boy a r s k y , Nicholas Fenkel,
Henry J. Blank and Jacob
Silverman, board members.
Cantor A. A. Rosenfeld, who
served as chairman of the pro-
gram, was installed as execu-
tive director of the Association.
Already this year, the Cantor's
Association has contribu t ed'
$1500 to charitable causes. Plans
are currently being made for a
concert which will celebrate the
'sixth anniversary of the found-
ing of the state of Israel.
The Cantors, under the direc-
tion of Dan Frohman, are avail-
able at community and civic
functions, it was stated by Can-
tor Rosenfeld.

Northwest Israel Members
To Hear Report on Progress

The program, under the direc-
tion of Cantor Hyman J. Adler,
will feature the „
Sisterhood chor-
al group, Men's
Glee Club and
synagogue pro-
fessional choir.
A philharmonic
string ensemble
directed by Zi-
novi Bistritzky,
of the Detroit.
Symphony Or-
chestra, also will
Cantor Adler
appear.
Following the concert, there
will be dancing to an orchestra
in the social hall. The venture
is being co-sponsored by. the
Sisterhood, Ladies' Auxiliary,
Men's Club and Chevra Ayin
Yaacov.

ning, in the so-
cial hall of the Welichansky
synagogue. Members will be ad-
mitted on their membership
cards, together with their es-
corts. Tickets will be for sale
at the door for non-members.

Wide Interest Shown in Dr. Hershman's
Book; Available at the Shaarey Zedek

"Religion of the Age and of
the Ages" by Dr. A. M. Hersh-
man, Rabbi Emeritus of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek, De-
troit, is attracting wide in-
terest and is reported by its
distributors, Bloch Publishing
Co., 31 W. 31st, New York 1, as
having a good initial sale.
Rabbi Hershman's earlier col-
lection of sermons, "Israel's Fate
and Faith," has been sold out
completely. There have been
many additional demands far
that book and Rabbi Hershman
has expressed regret at its un-
availability.
His second collection of ser-
mons, already acclaimed, like
its predecessor, as a classic, is
expected similarly to be sold out
in the coming months.

The entire Jewish community
of Detroit will be mobilized to
participate in the American
Jewish Tercentenary celebration
that will start in September of
1954 and will continue through
May of 1955, it
was indicated
at a meeting of
committees for
the local cele-
bration at Tem-
ple Beth El, on
Oct. 22.
Of special in-
terest in the
celebration will
be the partici-
pation of all
Rabbi From the Jewish

for the preparation of special
manuals for school studies, for
the training of choirs and for
mass celebrations
Synagogue participation, ex-

functions for the local celebra-
tion.

Armistice Service

A special pre-Armistice Day
Service will be held in honor of
Detroit's war veterans at Temple
Beth El, at 8:15 p.m., Nov. 6.
Dr. Richard C. Hertz, senior rab-
bi of the temple, will speak on
"The Price of Peace in 1953."
All v e t e r an s' organizations,
their members and wives, will
be represented at the service
and honored as special guests at
a reception to follow.
Temple Beth El is holding the
service as a mark of respect to
all veterans who have served our
country in time of war and in
order to raise a united voice of
Catholics, Protestants and Jews
in a city-wide demonstration on
the meaning of Armistice Day.
The temple will be open at
7:30 p.m. There will be no
charge of admission or colle73-
