47th Annual Meeting;
To Elect New Officers
Myron A Keys, president of
the Jewish Home for Aged, an-
nounces that the 47th annual
meeting will be held at 8 p.m.
Tuesday, at the Home, 11501
Petosky Avenue.
New members will be elected
to the board of directors, and
brief reports will be given by
standing and special commit-
tees. The Women's Auxiliary and
the Aesculapian Pharmaceutical
Association will present its an-
nual report.
There will be an exhibit of the
arts and crafts items made by
the residents in the hobby shop
and sheltered workshop, and a
gallery of photographs illustrat-
ing the religious, recreation and
occupational therapy activities.
The Home for Aged, organized
to accommodate a handful of
aged persons, in 1937, moved to
its present site in order to pro-
vide space for the care of 100
residents.
As the need arose, additional
facilities were added and at
present there are 200 residents
in the Home. Once again the
Home is engaged in an expan-
sion program. Now under con-
struction are two new kitchens,
and the extension of the dining
room, as well as other central
facilities in preparation for the
building of a new infirmary
wing in the near future.
This new addition would per-
mit the admission of another 100
infirm and chronically ill aged.
The Home is affiliated with
the Jewish Welfare Federation
of Detroit, and is supported by
the Allied Jewish Campaign

Find Israeli Guilty
Of Underground Action
TEL AVIV, (JTA)—An Israeli
military court at Sarafand has
found one defendant guilty and
acquitted another in the second
trial of youths charged with
membership in an illegal under-
ground organization.
Reuben Peretz was acquitted
on the ground that there was
insufficient evidence presented
to warrant a conviction. His co-
defendant, Zeev Yeivin, was
found guilty. The sentence was
not immediately announced.
In an earlier trial, 13 of 15
youths were convicted of mem-
bership in a terrorist organiza-
tion and were sentenced to from
one to 12 years.
Dedication of Israel's King Christian
Hospital Recalls Danish Heroism
JERUSALEM, (JTA)—High in
the Judean Hills some 200 Jews
rescued by the Danish people 10
years ago in a daring Dunkirk-
like operation, gathered to pay
honor to the small European
nation at exercises opening the
King Christian Tubercular Hos-
pital at Deir Amar.
The ceremony also marked
the evacuation ,of some 6,000 '
Danish Jews to Sweden by hun- ,
dreds of Danish fishermen and
boatmen who snatched the Jews
from certain death at the hands
of the Nazis, who then occupied
Denmark.
It was the late King Chris-
tian X, who led his people in
protesting the Nazi treatment
. of Jews by wearing a cloak
with a yellow Star of David on
it when he appeared in public.
This was in defiance of a
Nazi order which forced all Jews
to wear such identifying marlis
in an attempt to isolate them
from the remainder of the pop-
ulation.
Berl Locker, the Jewish - Ag-
ency co-chairman, recounting
the Danish exploit during the
High Holy Days in October,
1943, told the audience of Is-
! raeli government leaders, Dan-
ish and Swedish diplomats and '
lIsraelis from all walks of life,
that this operation "will ever
be remembered in the annals of
the Jewish people. What they
, did then," he continued, "saved
not only their own honor but
! also of that of Europe, Chris- ,
tianity and of all mankind."
He also stressed that the Jews
would not forget the aid given
under the Polish quota, while
her Belgian-born children came
under the Belgian quota.

Education Minister Ben Zion
Dinur, another speaker at the
exercises, revealed that as part
of the .memorial to the 6,000,000
European Jews murdered by the
Nazis, the Israel government
had decided that the first vol-
ume in the history of the Jew-
ish sufferings in Nazi Europe
would be concerned with the
story of the "pious among the
Gentile" and that the Danish
action would be the first re-
counted. The first page of that
volume, he added, would bear a
dedication to the late King
Christian.
