TEL AVIV—A mother and two of her five children were killed after midnight
Monday, by Jordanian marauders who hurled a hand grenade through the window of
a home in a Jewish village in the Lydda area, it was announced here Tuesday morning.
The same gang attacked a bus in the area about 2 a.m.
The murdered woman and children were Suzanne Kanyas, the mother one-year-
old Shoshana. Three other children asleep in another room escaped injuries. The father
was away on a job near Beersheba.
The Israel government has demanded an emergency meeting of the Israel-Jordan
Mixed Armistice Commission to act on this latest outrage.

Tenth Attack in Ten Days in Southeast Tel Aviv Area

The tenth attack by Jordanians within the last 10 days took place Monday when
an Israeli police patrol was fired on in the Beit Naballah area, southeast of Tel Aviv.

Trygve Lie Tells =Arab States to Help Solve Refugee Problem

Important Political Statements Boost
In income Mark Conference of U.,1 A

By Jewish News Correspondent

CLEVELAND, 0.—Important political state-
ment, coupled with generous payments on United
Jewish Appeal pledges, marked the national re-
port conference of the UJA, held here, at Hotel
Statler, last week-end.
I Cash proceeds brought to the conference
totalling $14,973,000, included a check for
$500,000 from the Detroit Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. The receipts at the conference brought
the UJA's 1953 receipts to a total of $59,526,000.
A leading role was played at the conference
by Joseph Holtzman, UJA's national cash
chairman, thanks to whose efforts the cash
payments have helped increase UJA's income.
Mr. Holtzman listed the following six points
of an emergency program for which UJA must
attain the additional cash goal of $25,000,000 by
the year's end:
(1) Creation of 40 new farm settlements for
Immigrants. (2) Expansion of irrigation to make
arable another 37,500 acres of land. (3) Construc-
tion of 10,000 housing units for those in tempor-
acy huts and shacks. (4), Help for 25,000 sick,

aged and handicapped immigrants. (5) Aid to a poverty and misery, and know it, and don't like
