Ball Player Risks Titles
To Observe Yom Kippur

CLEVELAND, (JTA)
Rosen, slugging third baseman
of the Cleveland Indians, asked
for and received permission to
skip the Indians' game in De-
troit because of Yam Kippur.
Rosen, outstanding candidate
for the most valuable player
award, and leading contender
for the American League's home
run crown and batting title,
stayed home although loss of
the one game threatened his
chance to win the home run and
batting titles.
"My wife and I talked it
over," Rosen explained, "and
decided it was best. There are
more important things in life
than winning batting titles."

ISTS CHORUS will make its
third D e t r o i t appearance in
a concert of folk songs and

Thirty musicians make up this

When the Germans invaded
the Ukraine, the Chorus was in-

Later the Nazis exploited the
Chorus by making them give
concerts to internees in labor
camps. After VE Day, the Chorus
traveled as free men throughout
Germany singing to U.S. Troops
and displaced persons of all na-
tionalities. Three hundred con-
certs were given between 1945
and 1949.
