Belgians to Get Rare Painting
For Help to Jews During War

NEW YORK, (JTA) — Harry
Torczyner, American Zionist
leader, left the U. S. for Belgium
to present the municipality of
Antwerp a 17th century Flemish
painting of an Antwerp land-
scape, discovered in Wilmington,
Del.
The presentation will be made
Thursday at a ceremony at An-
twerp City Hall in the presence
of the Mayor, members of the
City Council and local commun-
ity leaders.
Torczyner will give the paint-
ing to the Belgian city in the
name of his father, Numa, in
appreciation of the aid given by
Belgians during World War II
to Jews hiding from Nazis dur-
ing the German occupation of
the country.

president of the Labor Zionist
Oragnization of America, will be
guest speaker at an open meet
rug for all Labor Zionist groups

More than usual interest has
been evidenced in this Plenary
Session, the first to be held
since the withdrawal from
NCRAC of the American Jewish
Committee and Bnai Brith after
they were overwhelmingly out-
voted in September 1952 on a
resolution for effective organi-
zation of community relations
work. That resolution was an
outcome of the celebrated Mac-
Iver Report in 1951.
Theme of this year's Session
is "Community Relations Pro-

Desecrate Drove Cemetery

COLOGNE, (JTA).—The Jew-
ish cemetery at Drove, near
Aachen (Aix-la-Chapelle) has
been systematically desecrated.
The Jewish community there
has posted a reward for arrest

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Dr. Frank'
Press, associate professor of geol-
ogy and seismologist at Colum-
bia University's Lamont Geolog-
ical Observatory, has been
granted a three-month leave of
absence to serve as a "one-man
technical assistance mission"
to Israel.
At the request of the Israeli
government and UNESCO ; Dr.
Press will locate sites, supervise
construction, and train person-
nel for two seismological sta-
tions in that country. Each sta-
tion will have two modern seis-
mographs made available with
UNESCO funds. He will work in
cooperation with the Research
Council of Israel.
