Simhat Torah to Conclude
Autumn Season of Holidays

Simhat Torah services will be
held in most Conservative and
Orthodox Synagogues today. The
festival concludes the holiday
season for Jews throUghout the
world. Following is a schedule of
holiday services, together with a
listing of sabbath services for
this evening and Saturday.
Adas Shalom Synagogue
Rabbi Jacob E. Segal and Can-
tor Nicholas Fenakel will offi-
ciate at 8:30 a.m. services to-
day. Sabbath services will be
held at 6 p:m., today, and at 8:45
a.m Saturday. The Bar Mitzvah
of Daniel Raphael Snyder will
be observed.
Beth Aaron Synagogue
Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelicic
and Cantor .Judah Goldring will
officiate at sabbath services at
6 p.m., today, and at 8:45 a.m.,
Saturday. The Bar Mitzvah of
Lyle Coleman.will be observed.
Cong. Bnai Moshe
Services for Simhat Torah be-
gin at 9 a.m., today. Rabbi
Moses Lehrman and Cantor Da-
vid Katzman will officiate. Sab-
bath services will be held at 5:30
p.m., today, and at 9 a.m., Sat-
urday. The Bar Mitzvah of Leon-
ard Rosenthal will be observed

be held at 9 a.m., today, with
sabbath services slated for 6:30
p.m., today, and at 9 a.m., Sat-
urday. Rabbi Israel Halpern will
officiate. The Bar Mitzvah of

observed at Saturday services.

Shaorey Zedek Forms
Young Couples' Club

The first meeting of %Cong.
Shaarey Zedek's Young Married
Group will be held at 8:30 p.m..,
Oct. 11, in the synagogue social
hall. Organized for members
and children of members, the
organization is open to couples
36 years or under.
The group will seek to develop
an organization which embraces
cultural, social and religious ac-
tivities, and is interested pri-

of young couples.

A Feature of

Jewish Book Fair

A literary contest, held in co-
operation with Jewish schools, is
being• featured this year as part
of the second- annual Jewish
Book Fair, sponsored by the
Jewish Community Center.
The Book Fair, a major event
of Jewish Book Month, will be
held Saturday evening, Sunday
and Monday, Nov. 21, 22 and 23.
The contest will close Nov. 2,
and is open to students register-
ed in Jewish schools.
The contest 'entry may be a
poem, essay or composition and
should be entitled "My Favorite
Character in Jewish Literature"
or "My Favorite Jewish Book."
F o r elementary entries (8
through 11 years) 100 words or
less may be submitted; for in-
termediates (12 through 14) 150
words or less; and for high
school through 17) 200 words
or less. Entries should be typed
or written on one side of the
page, attached to, .a registration
blank, and sent to: Literary
Contest, Jewish Book Fair, 8904
Woodward, Detroit 2.
The best entries will be pub-
lished and all winners will re-
ceive Jewish books. A poster
contest, is also being . held in
connection with the Fair.
The Fair will feature a huge
selection of books on display.
The Center is cooperating with
leading Jewish cultural, educa-
tional and religious orgabiza-
tons in sponsoring the event.

Immediate plans proposed by
Stein concern the formation of

Israel in order to obtain the

The activities building will be
used for general, social, educa-
tional, cultural and religious ac-
tivities, and for auxiliary services
on the High Holy Days.
Plans call for a social hall,
auditorium, gymnasium a n d
other facilities.
In a message to congregants
on Kol Nidre. night, Rabbi Leon
Fram called on members to mak-
a concrete contribution to the
observance, in 1954, of the Ter-

cenary celebration of the land-
ing of the first Jewish settlers in
America by aiding the projected
building.
The proposed building will be
constructed along the same ar-
chitectural lines as is the sanc-
tuary, which was completed in
1951.

Folk Schools Enrollment
Reaches a New High Peak

Enrollment will remain open
for some time longer in the
United Jewish Folk Schools, it
was announced this week by
Movsas Goldaftas, director of
the school.
A number of new students
-and the return of most of last
year's pupils has set attendance
at a new high. Nursery school
sessions are completed, . but

A Junior Congregation

Northwest Israel Synagogue
and Center announces the or-
ganization of a junior congrega-
tion.
The group, which was formed
at a meeting last week, will be
